HP Officejet 6500 (E709a), HP Officejet 6500 Wireless (E709n), and HP Photosmart Plus (B209a, B209b, and B209c) All-in-One Printers - The Software CD Does Not Respond During Product Installation in Windows XP or Vista

Issue
When you try to install the HP software from a CD, the computer does not respond and the installation does not start.
Follow these steps in the order presented to resolve the issue.
  1. Insert the software CD into the CD drive.
  2. Close any window that opens after you insert the software CD.
  3. Depending on your operating system, follow one of these steps:
    • Windows XP: On the Windows task bar, right-click Start, and then click Explore.
    • Windows Vista: On the Windows task bar, right-click the Windows icon (), and then click Explore.
  4. In the left pane of the Windows Explorer window, find and select the CD drive that contains the software CD. The contents of the software CD display in the right pane.
  5. Click Edit, and then click Select All.
  6. Click Edit, and then click Copy.
      caution:
    Do not copy the contents of the software CD to the Windows Desktop.
  7. Click C:\ in the left pane. The contents of the C: drive display in the right pane.
  8. Click File, point to New, and then click Folder.
  9. Name the folder hpdisk.
  10. Double-click hpdisk, click Edit, and then click Paste. The computer copies the contents of the software CD to the folder. Leave Windows Explorer open when the copying process ends.
  • If the contents of the CD copy to your computer correctly, double-click Setup.exe to install the software.
  • If the contents of the CD do not copy to your computer correctly, continue with the next step.
Step two: Check the CD drive
  1. Insert an audio or video CD into the CD drive.
  2. Wait a few seconds while the computer reads the CD.
  • If the CD starts correctly, the HP software CD might be faulty. Continue to the next step.
  • If the CD does not start correctly, the CD drive might be faulty. Contact the computer manufacturer for more information about the CD drive. To continue with the product installation, continue to the next step.
Step three: Download and install the software from the HP Web site
Follow these steps to download and then install the most current software for your printer.
  1. Turn on the printer.
  2. If your printer is connected to the computer with a USB cable, disconnect the cable from the printer. The software installation prompts you to connect the cable if needed.
  3. If a Let's identify your product to get started page displays, click Printer, type your printer model number, and then click Submit.
    The software results page for your printer displays with the default operating system selected.
  4. If you need to change the operating system, click Change, select your version, and then click Change.
  5. Under the Driver heading, click Download for the full software package, or click Basic Drivers for other driver options.
