HP LaserJet 3050 All-in-One - Error Message "No Fax Detected"

"No Fax Detected" message appears while receiving faxes.
Items to check:
  1. Is the fax cord that was supplied with the device the fax cord that is being used?
    This device has been tested with the supplied fax cord and was proven to meet device specifications. If the supplied fax cord is not in use, reinstall it.
  2. Is the fax cord installed in the correct port on the device?
    It should be plugged into the "line" port.
  3. Is the telephone jack working properly?
    Verify that a dial tone exists by attaching a telephone to the jack on the wall. Can a dial tone be heard and can a telephone call be made?
  4. What type of telephone line is in use?
    Dedicated line: A unique fax/telephone number assigned to receive or send faxes. The fax cord should be connected to the device "line" port.
    Shared telephone line: A system where both telephone calls and faxes are received or sent by using the same telephone number and telephone line. A single, standard telephone line can perform only one function at a time. A fax cannot be sent while someone is talking on the telephone or while a computer is trying to connect to the Internet.
    PBX system: A business-environment telephone system: Standard home telephones and HP LaserJet all-in-one devices use an analog telephone signal. Some PBX systems are digital and might be incompatible with standard telephones and with devices such as the HP LaserJet all-in-one.
    Roll-over lines: A telephone system feature where, when one incoming line is busy, the next call "rolls over" to the next available line. Try attaching the device to the first incoming telephone line. The device will answer the telephone after it rings the number of times that is specified in the device rings-to-answer setting.
    Distinctive ring service: The telephone company can assign two telephone numbers to one physical line and assign a distinctive ring pattern to each number. Make sure that the device is set to respond to the correct distinctive ring pattern that the telephone service provider assigned to the fax number. This service is not available in all countries/regions. Make sure that the telephone company provides this service before changing the setting.
  5. Is a telephone-line splitter in use?
  6. Is a surge-protection device in use?
  7. Is an answering machine in use?
    An answering machine should be connected directly to the port that is labeled with the telephone icon, or it should be shared on the same telephone-line extension. Set the device rings-to-answer setting for at least one ring more than the number of rings for which the answering machine is set.
  8. Turning the Error correction mode off
    To change the error correction setting do the following:
    1. Press MENU/ENTER.
    2. Use the <or> button to select Fax setup and then press MENU/ENTER.
    3. Use the <or> button to select All faxes and then press MENU/ENTER.
    4. Use the <or> button to select Error correction and then press MENU/ENTER.
    5. Use the <or> button to select On or Off and then press MENU/ENTER to save the selection.
  9. Turning the V.34 settings Off.
    To change the v.34 setting do the following:
    1. Press the Menu button.
    2. Press < or > to select Fax setup, and then press Enter.
    3. Press < or > to select All faxes, and then press Enter.
    4. Press < or > to select v.34, and then press Enter.
    5. Press < or > to select On or Off, and then press Enter to save the selection.
  10. Turning the silence detect mode to ON.
    To change the silence-detect mode:
    1. On the all-in-one control panel, press Menu.
    2. Use the < or the > button to select Fax setup, and then press Menu.
    3. Use the < or the > button to select Fax Recv. setup, and then press Menu.
    4. Use the < or the > button to select Silence Detect , and then press Menu.
    5. Use the < or the > button to select On or Off , and then press Enter to save your selection
  11. Checking for any Firmware updates available.
  12. Try to Restore Factory Defaults
    Restoring the factory-set defaults returns all of the settings to the factory defaults, and it also clears the fax header name and phone number.
    This procedure clears fax numbers and names that are associated with one-touch keys and speed-dial codes, and deletes any pages that are stored in the memory. The procedure then automatically restarts the all-in-one.
    To restore the factory-set defaults:
    1. On the all-in-one control panel, press Menu
    2. Use the < or the > button to select Service, and then press Menu.
    3. Use the < or the > button to select Restore defaults, and then press Menu.
    4. The all-in-one automatically restarts.
