HP Officejet J6400 All-in-One Series - 'MFC HP Scan Application has stopped working' Message Displays on the Computer in Windows Vista During Black and White or Grayscale Scanning

Issue
On a computer running Windows Vista, the message MFC HP Scan Application has stopped working appears on the computer when using HP Solution Center to scan in black and white or grayscale.
Solution
Step one: Uninstall the print driver
  1. Quit the HP Solution Center program.
  2. Disconnect the USB cable connecting the product to the computer.
  3. On the Windows taskbar, click the Windows icon (), click Programs, and then click Hewlett-Packard or HP.
  4. Click the folder that lists the appropriate product.
  5. Click Uninstall Software. Follow the on-screen instructions to uninstall the software.
  6. Click No in the Delete Shared Files dialog box that appears on the computer during the uninstall process. Other programs that use these files might not work properly if the files are deleted.
Step two: Download and install the updated print driver
  1. Click here to go to the product software download page on the HP Web site.
  2. Click the appropriate product in the list that appears on the computer.
  3. Click the appropriate operating system in the list that appears on the computer.
  4. In the Drivers section, click HP Officejet Full Feature Software and Driver. Follow the on-screen instructions to download and install the print driver.
