HP Designjet 4500 Scanner series - Automatic Thickness Adjustment Control (ATAC)

Issue:
How to scan thick documents.
Solution
Scanners supporting Automatic Thickness Adjustment Control (ATAC) have an ATAC button on the operator panel. Use this key in combination with the up or down button to raise and lower the pressure platen. Adjust the media insertion slot from 2mm to 15mm (.6?). Originals up to 2mm thick should be scanned with the pressure plate all the way down. Thicker originals will require use of the ATAC key for thick media.
Adjusting the insertion slot for thick media with ATAC:
  1. Press the ATAC key on the operator panel to set the scanner in ATAC mode.
  2. The Paper Led will blink indicating the scanner is in ATAC mode but not yet ready. (The pressure platen is not positioned on the thick original)
  3. Press and hold the paper forward key (up arrow) to raise the pressure platen until there is room to insert the original.
  4. Insert the thick original evenly for a straight scan path.
  5. Press and hold the Paper Reverse (down arrow) to lower the pressure platen until it stops on its own.
  6. The paper indicator will turn yellow (stop blinking) when the pressure platen is positioned correctly and is ready for thick media scanning.
  7. The scanner will automatically leave the ATAC mode and the paper forward and paper reverse keys will return to their normal functionality.
  8. If lines seem uneven when scanning in Extended Thickness Mode select the Extended Thickness tab and change the values for the stitching offsets for each of the cameras. Normally only positive values should be used. Make test scans and readjust the values until you are satisfied that the lines are stitched correctly. Click OK to accept your settings.
  9. When finished with scanning thick originals return the Guide plate to its lowest position by pressing the ATAC control key and then hold the down arrow until the insertion slot no longer adjusts.
note:
Scanning thick originals can give distortions when the leading edge meets the exit rollers or the trailing edge meets the entry rollers. To omit this, the leading and trailing edge are by default skipped when in extended thickness position. Lead/trailing edge skipping can be turned off through the Jet image software. Center loading is the best method for loading thick originals. It is also important to support the original during scanning both at the entrance and exit side of the scanner.
