HP Designjet 50ps Printer - What is Remote Proofing

What is remote proofing?
The HP remote proofing solution facilitates printing workflows for a global economy. Remote proofing delivers accurate color proofs at your desk by simply printing files prepared by your commercial printer, pre-press house or agency. Full reliability of remote prints is assured by the automatic closed-loop color calibration and the remote proofing software.
  1. The source location (for example, designer or pre-press house) generates a remote proofing file. HP Remote Proofing generates a file that contains all needed information to reproduce the output in any of the supported RIPs. The RPF file is a package of two pieces:
    • A PDF/X3 piece, with the image, color profiles
    • A JDF piece, with all the RIP settings (media, print quality, etc)
The HP Designjet 50ps printer’s RIP enables remote proofing files to be generated from virtually any relevant input format or application. HP Designjet 10ps or 20ps printers, on the other hand, require Adobe(R) Acrobat(R) to generate the PDF file.
  2. The source location sends this to the remote location by e-mail, by FTP or by some other communication method. (HP does not provide the communication method).
  3. The remote location generates a proof just by ‘dragging and dropping’ the remote proofing file to the Designjet 10ps, 20ps or 50ps printer. They check the proof and send comments or approval back to the source location.
HP remote proofing solution (Designjet 10/20 and 50ps printers and the HP Remote Proofing software) ensures that both locations are looking at exactly the same print - same colors, same quality.
