HP printers - Use HP Smart app Shortcuts

Shortcuts (formerly Smart Tasks) is a feature of the HP Smart app. Use Shortcuts to create one-touch shortcuts to quickly complete your repetitive tasks, such as emailing, printing, and saving your scans.

Note:

As of March 2021, HP Smart Tasks has been renamed HP Shortcuts. Shortcuts is supported in many, but not all countries/regions. If the Shortcuts tile is not available in your HP Smart app, Shortcuts is not currently supported.

Install HP Smart

Install the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device.

Do the following if you are setting up the printer on a Wi-Fi network.

  • Place the printer and the computer or mobile device near the Wi-Fi router.

  • Turn on Wi-Fi on your computer or mobile device and connect to your network. If the computer is connected to the network with an Ethernet cable, temporarily disconnect the cable and use the Wi-Fi connection during the setup.

  • Enable Bluetooth on the computer or mobile device so that HP Smart can detect the printer during the setup.

  • After installing HP Smart for iOS and Android, enable the mobile device location service and allow the app to use your location to detect the printer and offer solutions during setup.

  1. Download the HP Smart app from 123.hp.com (Android, Apple iOS, iPadOS), HP Smart - Microsoft Store (Windows), or HP Smart - Mac App Store (macOS).

If you are prompted to sign in with Microsoft to use the app across devices, you can sign in or click No, thanks to continue.

    Note:

Disconnect from a Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection before downloading.

  2. If you are setting up HP Smart for the first time, you must create or sign in to an HP account to access all printer functions.

  3. In HP Smart, click Add Printer or the plus sign to search for the printer, and then follow the instructions to complete the setup.

Enable the Shortcuts tile in HP Smart

Add the Shortcuts tile to the home screen.

  1. Open the HP Smart app, and then select your printer on the home screen.

  2. Locate the Shortcuts tile on the home screen.

If the tile is not listed, use the personalization settings to enable it.

    • Android, iOS: Tap Personalize Tiles, and then enable Shortcuts.

    • Windows : Click the Settings icon , click Personalize Tiles, and then enable Shortcuts.

    • Mac: Click Printer Settings, and then enable Shortcuts.

Create a Shortcut

Create a Shortcut to print, email, or save documents or photos to a connected cloud account.

Note:

Shortcut settings vary by printer, mobile device, or computer.

Run a saved or preset shortcut from the HP Smart app, or set up shortcuts on the control panel for supported printers.

Enable scan to text files in a Shortcut

Use the Shortcut tiles to create text files from scanned documents, camera captures, and JPG images opened through the HP Smart app.

Note:

After you enable scan to text with an HP OfficeJet Pro 9010, 9020, 9010e, or 9020e printer, you can use scan to text with other HP printers that are set up in HP Smart. Scan to text is also available to HP+ printers through the HP Smart Advance.
