The following sections describe the most common error conditions with combinations of blinking (flashing) lights displayed on the printer control panel, followed by solutions for each combination. Find the blinking light pattern that displays on the control panel, and then follow the steps to resolve the issue.

Interpret light patterns for USB models.
The printer is processing a job or is initializing, restarting, cooling down, or cleaning. You do not need to take any action. Wait for a few minutes to complete the job.
If the Status light blinks quickly, turn off the printer, and then turn it. If the problem persists, contact HP Customer Support - Contact.
The printer is out of paper or there is a paper jam. Make sure paper is loaded into the input tray.
Slide the paper guides to the edges of the input tray.
Load a stack of plain paper with the print-side facing up into the input tray, and then slide the stack forward until it stops.
Slide the paper guides until they rest against the stack of paper.
Lower the tray cover and extend the output tray.
Press the Resume button . If the light continues to blink, check the paper path for any jammed paper and remove any jams that are found.
The cartridge might be very low on toner or there is a cartridge error.
Open the cartridge access door.
Remove the toner cartridge.
Recycle the old cartridge.
Remove the toner cartridge from the packaging.
Hold the cartridge at each end to prevent damage. Do not touch the protective cover or roller surface.
Grasp both sides of the cartridge, and then gently rock to distribute the toner evenly inside the cartridge.
Remove the cover from the cartridge.
Install the new cartridge.
Close the cartridge access door.
The cartridge access door is not properly closed.
Inspect and properly close the cartridge access door and rear access door.
The printer cartridge is low on toner.
You do not need to replace the toner now. Consider having a replacement cartridge available to install when the print quality degrades and becomes unacceptable.

The printer is idle and not connected to a wireless network.
Connect the printer to a wireless network.
The toner level is low.

If the printer fails to connect, set the printer to Wireless Setup Mode, wait for 30-45 seconds, and then open the HP Smart app and add your printer.
The printer is initializing, waiting for confirmation, performing automatic cleaning routines, downloading and installing a printer update, or cooling down.
The print job might pause during cooling down, and will continue when the printer is ready. This might take several minutes.
You do not need to take any action. Wait for a few minutes to complete the job.
The printer is performing routine maintenance.
You do not need to take any action. Wait for the routine maintenance to complete.
The printer is in Wi-Fi setup mode.
If the Information button blinks, press the Information button to connect to the wireless network.
The time has expired to make a Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) mode connection.
Press the Cancel button to clear the error, and try again.
If the printer fails to make the connection, press and hold the Wi-Fi button on the printer for three seconds, and then within two minutes press the WPS button on the router.
