DESCRIPTION
The following message appears after adding and enabling Intel Optane Memory
Intel Rapid Storage Technology
(0xA0070020):An unknown error occurred while an operation was in progress
This occurs because if the Rapid Storage Technology (RST) driver and manager software were installed while in AHCI mode. The issue occurs because certain components, required for proper operation in RAID mode, do not get installed under AHCI mode and enabling Optane memory automatically switches to RAID mode. RST has to be reinstalled after enabling the Optane memory.

  • Microsoft Windows 10 RS3 (Version 1709)
  • Microsoft Windows 10 RS4 (Version 1803)
RESOLUTION
Uninstall the RST driver in then reinstall it.
Uninstall RST:
  1. Start > Settings > Apps.
  2. Under Apps & Features, locate and click Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology.
  3. Click Uninstall.
