HP TouchSmart Desktop PCs - Calibrating the Screen (Windows 7)

This document pertains to HP TouchSmart computers with the Microsoft Windows 7 operating systems.

Using the HP calibration tool

To calibrate the screen of the HP TouchSmart using the HP calibration tool, complete the following steps.
  1. Remove all the clear protective packaging film from the outside of the computer.
  2. Clean the screen before calibrating.
    note:
    Do not spray cleaner directly onto the screen.
    With the computer off, spray glass cleaner onto a soft, damp cloth and gently wipe the screen to remove dirt and smudges. Give special attention to the upper left and right corners of the screen. Turn on the computer when finished.
  3. Click or tap Start on the task bar, and then click or tap All Programs.
  4. Click or tap PC Help & Tools, and then click or tap HP Touch Screen Calibration Utility.

  5. To continue, click or tap Yes in the User Account Control window.
  6. In the Calibration Utility, the cursor displays in the upper left corner of the screen. Touch the cursor for two seconds and release. The cursor moves to the next corner. Continue touching and releasing the cursor in each corner.
    After the fourth corner, click the Close button.
    note:
    Do not change the desktop resolution or perform any other task during calibration.

    The screen is calibrated.

Using the Microsoft calibration tool

To calibrate the screen of the HP TouchSmart using the Microsoft calibration tool, complete the following steps.
  1. Remove all the clear protective packaging film from the outside of the computer.

    With the computer off, spray glass cleaner onto a soft, damp cloth and gently wipe the screen to remove dirt and smudges. Give special attention to the upper left and right corners of the screen. Turn on the computer when finished.
  3. Click or tap Start on the task bar, and then click or tap Control Panel.
  4. In Control Panel, tap Hardware and Sound, and then tap Tablet PC Settings.
  5. On the Display tab, tap Calibrate.

  6. Tap the crosshair with your finger or a stylus each time that it displays on the screen.
    note:
    Tap the cross hairs quickly. Do not hold and press your finger or the stylus on the screen for a long time, or the tool might not display the next calibration point.

  7. When done, tap Yes to save the calibration data.

  8. If the screen is still not calibrated correctly, try resetting the computer back to the original calibration settings.
    Check the Reset button on the Display tab in the Tablet PC Settings.
    If it is available and can be selected, tap the Reset button to reset the computer to the factory calibration settings.
