HP iPAQ Pocket PCs - Accessing Shared Folders/Resources on a Server over a WiFi Network

Issue
The customer is unable to access shared folders on a server running Microsoft Windows Server 2003, to which the customer is connecting through a wireless network.
Solution
The customer may have the following setup:
HP iPAQ is connected to a wireless network and the user is trying to access the shared folders on a server (Microsoft Windows 2003 server) on the network using the File Explorer (go to File Explorer, then Menu, then Open Path, and New Path).
In this case, HP iPAQ may be repeatedly asking for the Username and Password.
This issue may occur due to the following reasons:
  • Password being used is a blank password.
Resolution: Ask the customer to try using a Username that does not have a blank password.
  • Server is configured to require signing.
Resolution: This can be resolved by editing the Security policy setting. To do this, complete the following steps on the Microsoft Windows 2003 server:
    1. Open Administrative Tools.
    2. Open Domain Controller Security Settings.
    3. Open Local Policies.
    4. Open Security Options.
    5. Under Microsoft network server set the following items to Disabled:
      • Digitally sign communications (Always).
      • Digitally sign communications (If client agrees).
If the previous steps do not resolve the issue, proceed with other troubleshooting.
