The iPAQ Pocket PC h5500 Series ships with a USB cradle. This cradle connects to a computer via a Universal Serial Bus (USB) connection. A USB cable is also provided to directly connect the device to a USB port on a PC. USB is a peripheral bus standard that allows users to attach peripheral devices to a computer on the fly, without having to reboot or reconfigure the system. USB devices are automatically configured as soon as they are physically attached.

USB Does Not Provide Power - Neither the USB cradle nor the direct USB cable provides power to the iPAQ. Power must still be supplied from the internal battery or through the AC adapter that is included with the unit.

The module supports slow Infrared (SIR), also defined as IrDA 1.0 with a maximum transmission rate of 1.15 Mbps.

Transmit Power¹	Bluetooth on the iPAQ supports Class 1 and Class 2. The power output can be adjusted by the user with the Bluetooth Manager software.

Security	Support for both Service-level and Link-level security.
Service-level	Device access permission depends on the service requested. For example, this level of security could allow a user to download files to a PC, but not allow access to calendar or address book applications on the PC.
Link-level	This is the most secure mode and requires authentication and authorization before granting access to any service on the device.
Encryption	Full support for Bluetooth security provisions including 40 and 128-bit encryption keys.
Random Number Generation	The random number generator used for Bluetooth security mechanisms is based on random physical processes, not a derived pseudo-random number from a software algorithm.
Packet Transfer	Bluetooth radio provides an electrical interface for packet transfer on a modulated carrier frequency using wireless-bearer services (CDMA, GSM, DECT). The radio transceiver operates in the 2.4GHz band.
Resistance to Interference	A Bluetooth transceiver uses a frequency-hopping spread spectrum technique to reduce interference and fade.
Spectrum spreading	Spectrum spreading is accomplished by frequency-hopping up to 1600 hops per second on 79 channels between 2.402GHz and 2.480GHz
note: Class 1 has a maximum output power of 100mW (20dB/m). Class 1 supports an unobstructed line-of-site range up to 100 meters. Class 2 has a maximum output power of 2.5mW (4dB/m). Class 2 supports up to a 10 meter range. Class 3 has a maximum output power of 1mW (0dB/m) with a very limited range.
