HP Business Inkjet 2230 and 2280 Series Printers - Carriage is Locked, Cannot Install Printheads

Issue:
When the printer is turned on during initial setup and the printhead access cover is opened, the carriage does not move from the home position on the right side of the printer and the printheads cannot be installed.
Solution
Follow the steps below:
  1. Remove the paper tray(s).
  2. Turn off the printer.
  3. Cold-reset the printer by following the steps below:
    1. Hold down the RESUME button.
    2. Turn on the printer.
    3. Release the RESUME button.
  4. Open the printhead access cover to see if the carriage will move. If the carriage does not move from the home position, follow the steps below:
  5. Close the printhead access cover.
  6. Turn off the printer.
  7. Install the paper tray(s).
  8. Cold-reset the printer by following the steps below:
    1. Hold down the RESUME button.
    2. Turn on the printer.
    3. Release the RESUME button.
  9. Open the printhead access cover to see if the carriage will move. If the carriage does not move from the home position, follow the steps below:
  10. Close the printhead access cover.
  11. Turn off the printer.
  12. Remove all of the following items from the printer:
    • Ink cartridges
    • Paper tray(s)
    • Interface cables
    • Personality card
    • Jetdirect card
  13. Cold-reset the printer by following the steps below:
    1. Hold down the RESUME button.
    2. Turn on the printer.
    3. Release the RESUME button.
  14. Open the printhead access cover to see if the carriage will move. If the carriage does not move from the home position, follow the steps below:
  15. Close the printhead access cover.
  16. Install all of the items listed below:
    • Ink cartridges
    • Paper tray(s)
    • Interface cables
    • Personality card
    • Jetdirect card
  17. Cold-reset the printer by following the steps below:
    1. Hold down the RESUME button.
    2. Turn on the printer.
    3. Release the RESUME button.
  18. Open the printhead access cover to see if the carriage will move. If the carriage does not move from the home position on the right side of the printer, service may be required. Depending on the policy of the store, a new printer may be returned and exchanged at the point of purchase.
