HP Designjet T and Z Series Printers - System Error 52:01

Issue

This error is described in the User Guide, not in the Service Manual.

Solution

The printer needs internal cleaning. See "Clean the printhead drop detector on page 146 of the User Guide."
Clean the printhead drop detector
The printhead drop detector is a sensor that detects which nozzles on printheads are not printing in order to calibrate them for consistent print quality. If particles, such as fibers, hair, or paper pieces, block the sensor, print quality is affected. When the front panel displays a warning message that a cleaning process is needed, it is recommended to clean the printhead drop detector. If user does not clean the printhead drop detector, the printer continues working normally; however, the front panel display continues to show the warning.
  let op:
Wear gloves to avoid getting ink on your hands.
  1. Turn off the printer at the front panel.
  2. For safety, switch the printer cut switch off and unplug the power cord.
  3. Open the main window.
  4. Find the printhead drop detector beside the carriage.
  5. Remove any debris blocking the printhead drop detector.
  6. With a dry lint free cloth or swab, wipe the surface of the drop detector around the slot, to remove any non-visible debris. No need to clean deep into the slot. Avoid going deeper than 1/4 inch (5mm).
  7. Close the window.
  8. Plug in and switch on the printer.
  9. Power the printer on at the front panel.
Print with it.
