Print with HP wireless direct (printers released from 2011-2014)

HP wireless direct is a connection option with certain HP printers released between late 2011 and mid-2014. Use an HP wireless direct connection when you are unable to connect to the printer over a Wi-Fi network.

If you purchased your printer after mid-2014, go to HP printer setup (Wi-Fi Direct) for more information.

For steps to connect and use your printer on your Wi-Fi network, go to HP printer setup (Wi-Fi network).

Connect and print with HP wireless direct

Change your Wi-Fi network connection to the printer's HP wireless direct connection to print from your computer or mobile device.

Note:

HP wireless direct is for printer use only. When you change from your Wi-Fi network to the printer connection, you must reconnect to your Wi-Fi network after printing to access the internet.

  1. On the printer control panel, touch the HP wireless direct icon , or open the Network Setup or Wireless Settings menu and select Wireless Direct to turn on the connection.

  2. To require a password (recommended) when connecting to the printer, select On or On with security. Note the password, and then touch OK.

  3. If you want to print web content, such as an email or cloud-based document, open the item before proceeding.

  4. Move the computer or mobile device you are printing from close to the printer, and then open the Wi-Fi settings to view the list of available networks.

  5. Select HP-Print-xx-[your printer model name] from the list of networks detected.

  6. If prompted, enter the printer password.

  7. Open the item you want to print, and then select the option to print from the File or Share menu.

  8. Select your printer, and then click Print.

  9. After the print job completes, reconnect the computer or mobile device to your Wi-Fi network.
