HP PCs - Tile FAQs
Tile technology is built into select HP devices with an Intel WLAN module. You can use the Tile app to locate lost items enabled with Tile, including your HP device.
Support for Tile on HP PCs is ending. Tile will no longer be included with HP PCs after December 31, 2022. Starting in February 2023, Tile will be removed from the image of HP PCs.
How does Tile work with HP devices?
Tile Bluetooth technology is built into select models of HP devices. After activation, you can use Tile features to keep track of your HP device and other items.
Tile helps you find your items with their free app on your mobile device or the Windows Tile app on your HP device. Tile can guide your search with a Proximity Meter, display the item's last known location on a map, or enable the secure and anonymous Tile Network to help find your lost items.
The Proximity Meter requires a Bluetooth connection.
Do I have to pay monthly for Tile?
There are no monthly fees to use Tile.
You can register with Tile for free. There are also optional Premium Plans for enhanced features and services, such as proactive notification Smart Alerts. You register directly with Tile.

Why is Tile integrated into my HP device?
Because the Tile module is integrated inside your HP device, there are no external Bluetooth devices that could easily be lost or removed or batteries that need to be replaced.
How do you find your items?
If you misplace your HP device, use the mobile app to find your device if it is nearby. Tap Find in the app to use the Proximity Meter to guide you to your device. On select models, the device rings.
You can download the mobile app from the App store or Google Play store. If you have additional Tiles attached to personal items, the app lets you organize your Tiles and give them identifying names. You can only use the Tile mobile app to find your device after you have activated the Tile Windows app on your device.
How do I use the Proximity Meter with Tile?
Use Proximity Meter to find your device when it is within Bluetooth range.
-
Open the Tile mobile app and find the list of Tiles. Make sure that your laptop Tile is listed as nearby.
-
Tap Find.
Note:If the Find button is not displayed, you are out of Bluetooth range. See How do I find my device if it is out of range?.
-
As you walk around slowly, the green circles of the Proximity Meter fill in and help you locate the device.
-
Tap Done when you find your device.
How do I find my device if it is out of range?
If you are trying to find your device with the Tile mobile app but the green Find button is not available, the device is not in Bluetooth range. You can check the Tile app to see where your device was last located.
When your Tile is within Bluetooth range of your mobile device and the Tile app is open or running in the background of your device, both are communicating with each other to locate your item. When communication is lost (for example, by exceeding the Bluetooth range), the app immediately records the last time and place your Tile and mobile device were connected. Last seen nearby is the last place the app recorded the location of your Tile.
To see the location on a map, click the displayed address.
Find an out-of-range device with Tile
You can check your map in the Tile app on your mobile device to see where your device was last located.
-
Open the Tile app and tap the Tile that you want to locate.
-
Click Options > View on map to see the last known location of your device.
-
To see the location on a map, click the displayed address. To see a map with walking or driving directions, click the directions icon
.
-
When you arrive at the location, try to locate your device using Tile.
Note:You must leave the app open or running in the background on your mobile device for your Tile to be able to communicate its location. However, the Tile module in the HP device provides location updates to your mobile device even if the Windows app is closed or the device is turned off.
-
If your device is nearby and you are still unable to find it, go to the Tile Support Connectivity page (in English).
What is the Tile Network and how do I use it to find my lost device?
If you misplaced your device, you can enlist the secure and anonymous help of the Tile Network to aid in your search. The Tile Network is a community of global Tile app users who anonymously provide location updates from lost devices.
To strengthen the Tile Network, Tile has partnered with Industry leaders such as Amazon Sidewalk, Comcast Xfinity, and JapanTaxi. Compatible Echo devices on Sidewalk, select Comcast X1 and Flex set-top boxes and xFi Gateways, and all multi-terminal in-vehicle JapanTaxi tablets securely scan for and locate Tiles within Bluetooth range, and then provide location updates to the Tile service.
In the mobile app, tap Notify When Found to receive a notification when the location of your device is anonymously updated by other Tile app users or when it connects to any Tile Network Extender. Location information is shared only with you.
To read more about the Tile Network, go to the Tile Network page (in English) from Tile Support.

When should I deactivate my Tile module? Should I deactivate it?
You do not need to deactivate Tile unless you want to stop using Tile to help you locate your device when needed.
If you plan to sell or give your HP device to another person, or plan to change from one account to another account, then HP recommends that you deactivate and remove your device as a Tile within your account.
How do I deactivate and remove my Tile from my account?
To deactivate Tile on your device, use the Tile app.
-
Click your device in the Tile app.
-
Click More Options.
-
At the bottom of the screen, click Remove PC.

How long does Tile continue to operate in a lost device?
The Tile module integrated inside the HP device does not use an independent power source, but draws its power from the main device battery. When Tile is enabled, only a small amount of power is used.
Location updates are available for up to 20 days of off or idle device time, after which the unit enters Factory Ship Mode and turns off the power supply until the device turns back on.
Location updates depend on the battery level of your device.
Can Tile help find my device when it is asleep or off?
Yes. Because Tile draws power from the device battery, location updates are available for up to 20 days of off or idle device time. After this time, the device enters Factory Ship Mode and turns off the power supply until the device turns back on.
If the device has been idle for 20 days or the battery has been completely discharged, you cannot find your device using Tile.
What version of the app do I have installed?
You can find the Tile Windows app version number in Advanced settings or in the Tile App settings.
To open the Tile App settings, click Start, search for Tile, right-click Tile, and then select App settings.
