HP LaserJet Pro - A wired Ethernet-connected printer does not print and has no response when initiating a print job

This document pertains to HP LaserJet Pro printers connected to a network with an Ethernet cable, not for a USB or wireless connection.

When printing to an HP LaserJet Pro printer using a wired network connection, one or more of the following symptoms are present:

  • Print jobs do not print

  • The printer does not respond when a print job is initiated

  • A print job is stuck in the queue

Follow the steps below (in the order presented) to resolve the issue.

The steps vary according to the type of control panel.

Step one: Check connectivity at the printer

Check the wired network connection at the printer and computer.

Click the section below for your control-panel type and then follow the steps provided.

Step two: Check connectivity in the Embedded Web Server (EWS)

After making sure that the orange and red lights are blinking at the network connector on the printer, check connectivity in the Embedded Web Server (EWS).

Note:

To access the EWS, you will need the printer's IP address. You can obtain the printer's IP address on the printer control panel.

Step three: Uninstall the printer software

Choose one of the following methods to uninstall the printer software.

Step four: Install the most current printer software

Follow the steps below to install the most current printer software.

  1. Click the link below that pertains to your operating system (Windows or macOS) and then follow the instructions provided.

  2. After you have installed the latest printer software, try printing a test page.

    If the test page prints, the printer is connected to the wired network.
