HP LaserJet MFP M232 – M237 printers – An ‘rd’ error displays on the printer control panel

The message rd appears on the control panel of HP LaserJet MFP M232 – M237 printers and the printer does not respond. Update the printer firmware to resolve the problem.

Note:

You need a Windows PC to complete the update. If you don't have access to a Windows computer, contact HP Customer Support for further assistance.

Update printer firmware from a Windows PC

Update printer firmware from a Windows PC to resolve the error.

  1. Connect a USB Type-A to Type-B cable to the USB port on the rear of the printer, and then to the computer.

    Note:

    If the USB port is covered with a sticker (), remove the sticker.

  2. Enter your product name, and then click Submit.

    Software and drivers page for your printer opens.

  3. Click Firmware > Download to download the M232-M237_Series_FW_Update-202XXXXX.exe firmware.

  4. Open M232-M237_Series_FW_Update-202XXXXX.exe.

  5. Select HP LaserJet M232-M237, and then click Send Firmware.

  6. Wait for up to three minutes to complete the update.

  7. Turn the printer off, wait until it fully powers off, and then turn it on again.

If the problem persists, contact HP Customer Support.
