Q & A:

Q: Do all HP Color LaserJet cartridges have the coating of yellow toner or white powder?
A: Yes. The coating of yellow toner or white powder can be found on the developer roller on all Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black HP Color LaserJet print cartridges.

Q: What is the reason for the application of the yellow toner or white powder?
A: The yellow toner or white powder functions as a coating designed to lubricate the internal components of the toner cartridge upon start up.

Q: Why specifically is the color yellow or white used?
A: Yellow or white is used because it blends in easily with other colors.

Q: How long will the yellow toner or white powder be present on the developer roller?
A: The yellow toner or white powder will disappear before the first page is printed. When a new cartridge is installed, the printer does a short calibration which rotates the internal components in the toner cartridge. When the internal components are rotated, the yellow toner or white powder is removed and deposited into the waste hopper of the toner cartridge.

Q: How long has HP been performing this practice?
A: The coating of yellow toner or white powder has been utilized since the introduction of the Color LaserJet printers.

Q: Will the coating of yellow toner or white powder affect print quality?
A: No. Print quality will not be affected.
