HP LaserJet Pro 500 color MFP M570 - Setting Up the Printer Hardware

note:
This document is for the HP LaserJet Pro 500 Color MFP models M570dn and M570dw.
This document explains how to set up the physical parts of the product. Complete these steps before you install the product software on your computer.
If you have already set up the product hardware and you need software installation help, see Links to software installation instructions at the end of this document.
This document includes the following steps to set up the product:

Unpack the product

  1. Before you unpack the product, select a site to place the product that meets the following specifications:
    • A sturdy work surface, well-ventilated area, and away from direct sunlight
    • Temperature range: 15° - 27° C (59° - 80.6° F)
    • Humidity range: 10% - 80%
      caution:
    The product weighs 40.8 kg (89.9 lb). HP recommends two people move the product.
  2. Take the HP product out of the box, and then remove the packaging material. Verify that the contents match this illustration.
    note:
    HP recommends recycling packing materials whenever possible.

  3. Open the document feeder, and then remove the orange shipping tape.

  4. Remove the protective sheet from the document feeder input tray, and then open the right door.

  6. Close the right door.

  7. Open Tray 2, and then remove the tray shipping lock.

Load paper

  1. Adjust the sliding front and side paper guides to the correct paper size.

  2. Place the paper in the tray.
    note:
    Do not overload the paper input tray. Make sure that the stack of paper fits within the tray and is no higher than the top of the guides.

  3. Make sure that the paper stack is against the back and side of the tray.

  4. Verify that the sliding front and side paper guides are snug against the paper stack.

  5. Close the tray.

Connect the network cable (optional)

If you are connecting to a network, connect the network cable now. If not, skip this step and go to Connect power cable and turn on the product.
  caution:
Do not connect a USB cable now. If you plan to use a USB cable to connect the product to the computer, it will be connected during the software installation.

Connect the phone cable for fax (optional)

To use the fax function, connect the supplied phone cable between the fax port on the product and a phone jack.
note:
A country/region specific adapter for the RJ11 phone cable might be required to connect to the phone jack.

Connect power cable and turn on the product

  1. Connect the power cable between the product and a grounded AC outlet. To prevent damage to the product, use only the power cable that is provided with the product.

      caution:
    Make sure your power source is adequate for the product voltage rating. The voltage rating is on the product label. The product uses either 100-127 Vac or 220-240 Vac and 50/60 Hz.
  2. Turn the product power on.

  3. Wait for 60 seconds before continuing. During this time, if you connected the product to a network, the network recognizes the product and assigns an IP address or host name for the product.
  4. When the Home screen appears, touch the Setup button and then select System Setup menu to configure the following basic functions:
    note:
    After you install the software, more advanced setup is available by entering the product IP address in the address bar of a Web browser.
    • Language Settings
    • Date/Time
    • Energy Settings
      note:
      If the product will be connected with a USB cable, the software installation process requires that the product is turned on and in the Ready state. Set the Energy Settings item to Off. You can reset the Energy Settings item to the desired Sleep Delay setting after software installation.

  5. To verify that your product prints, do the following:
    1. Touch the Setup button on the control panel.
    2. Touch the Reports menu on the control panel.
    3. Touch the Configuration Report item on the control panel to print the product configuration and Jetdirect pages.
      note:
      If you plan to use the product on a network, save these pages. The Jetdirect page contains the product IP address.
    4. If you connected the product to a network, find the IP address on the Jetdirect page.
      • IPv4: If the IP address is 0.0.0.0, or 192.0.0.192, or 169.254.x.x, you must manually configure the IP address. Otherwise, the network configuration was successful.
      • IPv6: If the IP address begins with "fe80:", the product should be able to print. If not, you must manually configure the IP address.

  6. To test the document feeder and copy function, do the following:
    1. Place the printed configuration report into the document feeder face-up.
    2. From the Home screen on the product control panel, touch the Copy button.
    3. Touch the Black or Color button on the control panel to start copying. The product copies, and then prints a page.
  7. To test the scanner glass and copy function, do the following:
    1. Place the printed configuration report face-down on the scanner glass.
    2. From the Home screen on the product control panel, touch the Copy button.
    3. Touch the Black or Color button on the control panel to start copying. The product copies, and then prints a page.

Update the firmware (optional but recommended)

HP regularly updates features that are available in the product firmware. Update the product firmware to take advantage of the most current features.
note:
Check with your network administrator before updating the product firmware.
