HP LaserJet M1522 and M2727 MFP Product Series - Automatic Document Feeder "no paper pick" issue

Issue Description

The Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) will not pickup paper when scanning from ADF.

Issue check

The ADF pickup roller might be in the wrong position due to a paper jam or improper operation of the ADF.
  1. Check the sensor in the ADF to ensure it correctly detects paper.
    1. Load a single sheet on the ADF feeder, if the display changes from Ready to Document Loaded the sensor is working (continue with step 2 below). If the sensor is not detecting paper continue with the Workaround section below.
  2. Check the Pickup roller status:
    In printer ready phase, the ADF pickup roller should be in stop status.
    1. Lift up the ADF cover.
    2. Inspect on the ADF pickup roller.
    3. In Printer ready phase, the Grey pickup roller should not touch the brown separation pad (as shown below).
    4. If the Grey pickup roller is touching the the brown separation pad, then it will cause an ADF no pick failure.

Workaround

If this issue can be identified as a sensor issue or the pickup roller is in the wrong position (using steps above), a power cycle will reset the sensor and the pickup roller to correct status.
If a power cycle does NOT fix the issue, please contact HP support or an HP Authorized Service Center for further investigation.
