HP Compaq nc6220 Notebook PC - Removing and Replacing Hard disk drive

Introduction
This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the Hard disk drive for the HP Compaq nc6220 Notebook PC.
Minimum skill level
The End-User should possess product-specific knowledge and technical skill on how to service the system, and have familiarity with the operating system.
Tools required
  • Small, Phillips-head (P0 and P1) screwdrivers
  • Small, flat-bladed screwdriver or a flat-bladed alignment tool

The replacement part number will vary depending on the hard disk drive that is being replaced. If a part is listed as "Yes" under "Requires Return" then the defective part needs to be returned to HP. Click here for more information on returning parts to HP.

Hard disk drive removal
  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:
      caution:
    Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to your product or loss of data.
  2. Loosen the two captive P0 Phillips-head screws that secure the hard disk drive cover to the bottom of the notebook.
  3. Use your finger or a flat-bladed tool to lift the inside edge of the hard disk drive cover and remove it.
  4. Loosen the captive spring-loaded P1 Phillips-head screw that secures the hard disk drive.
  5. Grasp the Mylar tab and pull the hard disk drive toward the outside edge of the base enclosure to disconnect the hard disk drive from the system board connector.
  6. Lift the hard disk drive out of the bay and remove.
  7. If present, remove the hard disk drive PIN extender.

  8. Place the hard disk drive in a static dissipative bag.
Hard disk drive replacement
  1. Remove the hard disk drive from the static dissipative bag.
  2. IIf required, replace the hard disk drive PIN extender.
      note:
    This procedure not shown in video.
  3. Place the hard disk drive into the hard disk drive bay.
  4. Push the hard disk drive toward the inside of the base enclosure until the connector is seated.
  5. Tighten the captive spring-loaded P1 Phillips-head screw that secures the hard disk drive.
  6. Toe the hard disk drive cover into the enclosure.
  7. Tighten the two captive P0 Phillips-head screws.
