HP Photosmart D5460, D5463, and D5468 Printers - Replacing Ink Cartridges

Introduction

You might need to install a new ink cartridge when the existing ink cartridge is low or out of ink and the print quality is unacceptable.

Replacing ink cartridges

Follow these steps to replace ink cartridges.

Press the power button () to turn on the product.
Open the ink cartridge door by lifting it until it snaps into place.

The carriage moves to the center of the product.
Press the tab on the front of the ink cartridge to release it and remove it from the slot.

- If replacing the black ink cartridge, push the tab of the ink cartridge on the far right.
- If replacing one of the other ink cartridges, such as photo black, magenta, cyan, or yellow, push the tab on the appropriate ink cartridge to remove it.
Remove the new ink cartridge from its packaging by pulling the orange pull-tab straight back to remove the plastic wrap from the ink cartridge.

Twist the orange cap to snap it off.

note:
A forceful twist may be required to remove the orange cap.

Using the colored shaped icons for help, slide the ink cartridge into the empty slot until it clicks into place and is seated firmly in the slot.

caution:
Do not lift the latch handle on the carriage to install the ink cartridges. Doing so can result in incorrectly seated ink cartridges and printing issues. The latch must remain down in order to correctly install the ink cartridges.

Make sure to insert the ink cartridge into the slot that has the same shaped icon and color as the one that is being installed.

note:
Repeat steps three through seven for each ink cartridge to be replaced.
Close the ink cartridge access door.
