HP PSC 1500 Series, and Photosmart C3100 and C4100 Series All-in-Ones - Unable to Insert the Cartridge

Issue

The cartridge cannot be inserted into the carriage during initial installation or after being replaced.

Solution

Follow the steps below to resolve this issue.

Step one: Make sure the cartridge is compatible with the product

Purchase replacement cartridges and other supplies from the HP Store or local retailers.

Step two: Remove both cartridges from the printer

  1. If it is not already lit, press the Power button to turn on the product.

  2. Make sure the paper tray is down and that there is letter or A4 unused plain white paper loaded in the paper tray.
  3. Lower the access door until it stops. Make sure that the carriage moves to the right side.

Step three: Reinstall the black cartridge

note:
Due to a slight dent or notch in the cartridge installation chute, it may feel like the cartridge has been fully inserted, but may not be. Please push the cartridge in firmly to make sure it is fully inserted, but be careful not to push too hard and cause other problems.
  1. Slide the black cartridge forward at a slight upward angle into the empty right slot. Push the cartridge forward until it clicks into place.

    note:
While inserting the cartridge, ensure that the label on the top of the cartridge is facing the ceiling.

Do not try to insert the cartridge with the label towards you. Inserting the cartridge with the label in the wrong direction is one of the probable reasons the cartridge pops out.

You will notice some noise within the printer as the cartridges align in the proper position.

Step five: Print a self-test report

  1. Press and hold the Cancel button, and then press the Color copy button.
  2. Release both buttons. The self-test report prints.
