HP Compaq nx6115 and nx6125 Notebook PCs - Installing the Drives

Installing the Hard Drive

The hard drive can be replaced by performing the steps given below:
  1. Prepare the notebook for disassembly.
    1. Shut down the notebook. If it is not sure whether the notebook is off or in hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
    2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the notebook.
    3. Disconnect the power cord.
  2. Loosen the two Phillips PM 2.5×6.0 screws that secure the hard drive cover to the notebook (Figure 1).
  3. Lift the right side of the hard drive cover and swing it to the left (Figure 1).
  4. Remove the hard drive cover.

    1. Loosening the two Phillips PM 2.5×6.0 screws that secure the hard drive cover to the notebook.
    2. Lifting the right side of the hard drive cover and swinging it to the left.
  5. Grasp the mylar tab on the right side of the hard drive and slide the hard drive to the right to disconnect it from the system board (Figure 2).
  6. Remove the hard drive from the hard drive bay (Figure 2).

    2. Sliding the hard drive to the right to disconnect it from the system board.
    3. Removing the hard drive from the hard drive bay.
  7. Remove the four Phillips PM 3.0×5.0 hard drive frame screws from each side of the hard drive (Figure 3).
  8. Lift the frame straight up to remove it from the hard drive (Figure 3).
  9. Install the new hard drive by reversing the above procedure.

Installing the Optical Drive

The optical drive can be can be replaced by performing the steps given below:
  1. Prepare the notebook for disassembly.
    1. Shut down the notebook. If it is not sure whether the notebook is off or in hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
    2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the notebook.
    3. Disconnect the power cord.
  2. Remove the memory module compartment cover.
  3. The notebook should be positioned such that the right side should be facing the person using it.
  4. Remove the Torx T8M 2.5×9.0 screw that secures the optical drive to the notebook (Figure 4).
  5. Insert a thin tool, such as an unbent paper clip, into the media tray release hole and release the media tray (Figure 4).
  6. Use the media tray to slide the optical drive out of the notebook (Figure 4).
  7. Remove the optical drive.
  8. Install the new optical drive by reversing the above procedure.

  2. Inserting a thin tool, such as an unbent paper clip, into the media tray to release the hole and release the media tray.
  3. Using the media tray to slide the optical drive out of the notebook.
