Evo Notebook N400c - Fast Infrared Overview

Fast Infrared (FIR) Overview

The Temic TFDS 3010 SIR Transceiver integrates an infrared LED, an infrared detector, and integrated circuitry to convert received signals to
logic levels. The module interfaces directly to the IRIN and IROUT pins of the MSIO UART2 to create an IRDA compatible Serial Infra-Red
port. When the Shutdown pin is asserted, the device enters a low power state.
The Temic module does not perform any formatting of the data. Received data from the module is input to the IRRX pin on the MSIO and is
decoded internally before reaching the UART-B receive signal. Data transmitted from the UART-B TX signal is encoded and output on the IRTX
pin of the MSIO, which drives the TX pin on the IR module.
Maximum Data Rate - 115.2 kBits/second
  • FIR - Far Infrared (also referred to as Fast Infrared.) Fast Infrared is an extension on the current IrDA standard.
  • A 4Mbps transfer rate can be achieved using IrDA-1.1.
  • This standard relies on serial communications but the protocol and wavelength are enhanced to accommodate the faster transfer rates.
  • The suggested maximum distance is still 3 meters with a 15 deviation from center line.
  • The software used to operate the IrDA port is native to Windows 95 and Windows 98.
