This document is for HP Laser 100, 1000, Laser 130 MFP, Color Laser 150, and Color Laser 170 MFPs.
Use a USB cable or the direct wireless connection method to establish a wireless connection between your printer and network.
Step 1: Prepare for installation
Prepare for installation before setting up the printer on a wireless network.
To use your printer on a wireless network, you need the following items:
A compatible computer or mobile device connected to your wireless network
Internet access
A USB cable (might be required during installation)
Make sure the router is turned on.
If you are connecting your printer using your computer or mobile device, make sure it is connected to your wireless network.
Place the printer close to the computer or mobile device and within range of the router.
If you plan on printing from a mobile device, first setup the printer from a computer using the steps in this document. After the printer has been set up, download HP Smart app to your mobile device and add your printer.
Step 2: Restore network defaults
Use buttons on the control panel to put your printer in wireless setup mode. If you are setting up your printer for the first time, skip to the next step.
HP Laser 100, 1000, Color Laser 150: Press and hold the Wireless button for at least 20 seconds until the Attention and Power LEDs blink together.
HP Laser MFP 130, Color Laser MFP 170: Press the Menu button , press the Right arrow until you see Network, press OK, press the Right arrow until you see Wi-Fi, press OK, select Wi-Fi Default, and then press OK.
Step 3: Connect the printer to your wireless network
Set up the printer on a wireless network using the USB cable, a direct wireless connection method, Wi-Fi Direct, or the Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) method.
Connect using a USB cable
Use a USB cable to connect your printer to the wireless network.
Select the name of your printer, and then click Search.
Click Download.
On the Welcome screen, click Next.
Accept the Installation Agreements and Settings, and then click Next.
On the Printer Connection Type screen, select Wireless network connection, and then click Next.
Select Yes, I will set up my printer's wireless network, and then click Next.
Select Using a direct wireless connection, and then click Next.
Turn the printer on, and then click Next.
Wait until the software locates and connects to your printer, and then click Next.
On the Select Wireless Network screen, select the name of your wireless network, and then click Next.
Make sure the network password is correct, and then click Next.
Wait while the software configures the wireless settings for the printer.
On the Wireless Network Setup Complete screen, click Next.
Select the printer software you want to install, and then click Next.
Wait until the printer software finishes installing, and then click Next.
On the Setup Completed screen, select the box to print a test page, and then click Finish.
The printer is now ready to print wirelessly.
Android
Use the HP Smart app to connect your printer to your network.
From a browser on your smartphone or tablet, go to 123.hp.com, and then tap Get the App.
Tap Install to download and install the HP Smart app.
Open the app, and then review and accept the terms and conditions.
Tap the Plus sign to add your printer.
Select your printer from the list or tap Add Printer.
Follow the on-screen prompts to select your wireless network and type the network password.
Wait for the software to configure the wireless setting for your printer.
Tap Continue to complete setup.
If you do not have the HP Print Service Plugin for Android, tap Continue when the app prompts you.
Tap Install to download and install the HP Print Service Plugin.
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete setup.
The printer is now ready to print wirelessly.
Apple iOS
Use the HP Smart app to connect your printer to your network.
From a browser on your iPhone or iPad, go to 123.hp.com, and then tap Get the App.
Tap Get to download and install the HP Smart app.
Open the app, and then review and accept the terms and conditions.
Tap the Plus sign to add your printer.
Select your printer from the list or tap Add Printer.
Tap Set Up a New Printer.
Follow the on-screen instructions to go to the Wi-Fi Settings menu on your mobile device.
In the list of networks, select the name of your printer with HP-Setup in front of the name.
Follow the on-screen prompts to select your wireless network and type the network password, and then tap Continue.
Wait for the app to configure the wireless settings for your printer.
Follow any on-screen instructions to go to Wi-Fi Settings on your mobile device.
On the Settings screen, select the name of your wireless network.
Tap Continue to complete setup.
If you want to add the HP Smart app to another device, tap Share Link.
The printer is now ready to print wirelessly.
Connect using Wi-Fi Direct
Use Wi-Fi Direct to print wirelessly without connecting your printer to a wireless network.
HP Laser 100, 1000, Color Laser 150
Install the printer software, and then enable Wi-Fi Direct.
On your computer or mobile device, go to 123.hp.com to download and install the printer software.
On the printer control panel, press and hold the Resume/Cancel button or Resume button on the printer control panel for 10 seconds or until the Power light starts to blink.
A Configuration page and a Network Configuration report print.
In the Wi-Fi Direct Information section on the Network Configuration report, note the Current SSID name and Network Key (password).
On your computer or mobile device, open the Wireless or Wireless Settings menu.
In the list of networks, select the name of your printer with DIRECT in front of the name.

Connect to the printer using the Network Key you noted earlier.
Your printer is now ready to print wirelessly with Wi-Fi Direct.
HP Laser 130 MFP, Color Laser 170 MFP
Install the printer software, and enable Wi-Fi Direct.
On your computer or mobile device, go to 123.hp.com to download and install the printer software.

On the printer control panel, press the Menu button , press the Right arrow until you seeNetwork, press OK, press the Right arrow until you see Wireless, press OK, and then enable Wi-Fi Direct.
In the Wi-Fi Direct menu, find and note the Device Name and Network Key (password).
On your computer or mobile device, open the wireless settings menu.
In the list of networks, select the name of your printer with DIRECT in front of the name.
Connect to the printer using the Network Key you noted earlier.
Your printer is now ready to print wirelessly with Wi-Fi Direct.
Connect using Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS)
Use the WPS button on your router to connect your printer to the wireless network.
Use the printer control panel to put your printer into WPS mode.
HP Laser 100, 1000, Color Laser 150: Press and hold the Wireless button for at least three seconds.
HP Laser 130 MFP, Color Laser 170 MFP: Press the Menu button , press the Right arrow until you see Network, press OK, press the Right arrow until you see Wi-Fi, press OK, press the Right arrow until you see WPS, press OK, and then select PBC.
Within two minutes, press and hold the WPS button on your router for at least three seconds.
The Wireless light on the printer blinks and the printer connects to the wireless network. When the connection is successful, the Wireless light stops blinking and remains on.
Go to 123.hp.com to download and install the printer software.
