HP LaserJet Enterprise 500 Color MFP M575/Flow MFP 575 - Removal and replacement: Intermediate transfer belt (ITB)

This document provides the procedures to remove and replace the intermediate transfer belt and secondary transfer roller.

Important:

When applicable, special installation instructions are provided for an assembly at the end of the removal procedure. Always completely read the removal instructions and follow all special installation instructions.

Before performing service

Turn the printer power off

  • Disconnect the power cable.

    Warning:

    To avoid damage to the printer, turn the printer off, wait 30 seconds, and then remove the power cord before attempting to service the printer.

CAUTION:

When handling the replacement assemblies, do not touch the shiny black surface of the ITB or the sponge surface of the secondary transfer roller. Skin oils might cause image quality problems.

  • No special tools are required to install this part.

After performing service

Turn the printer power on

  • Connect the power cable.

  • Use the power switch to turn the power on.

Post service test

Make sure that the printer initializes to a Ready state.

Print a configuration page to make sure that the printer is functioning correctly.

Remove the ITB

Follow these steps to remove the ITB.

CAUTION:

Do not touch the black-plastic belt. Skin oils and fingerprints on the belt can cause print-quality problems. Always place the ITB on a flat surface in a safe and protected location.

  1. Open the right-door assembly.

    Open the right-door assembly.

    Open the right-door assembly.
  2. Use the blue lever (callout 1) to lower the secondary transfer assembly.

  3. Grasp the small handles on the ITB and then pull the ITB out of the product until two large handles expand along the right- and left-side of the ITB.

  4. Grasp the large handles on the ITB and then pull the ITB straight out of the product to remove it.

    CAUTION:

    The ITB is a sensitive component. Be careful when handling the ITB so that it is not damaged. Always place the ITB in a safe and protected location.

  5. Reverse the removal steps to install the assembly. Also use the following special installation instructions.

    1. If you are installing a replacement ITB, make sure that you remove all of the packing tape (callout 1) and the protective cover sheet (callout 2).

      Note:

      Continue to reverse the removal steps to finish installing the assembly.

      Reinstall the ITB

      Reinstall the intermediate transfer belt

Unpack the replacement assembly

Follow these steps to unpack the replacement assembly.

  1. Dispose of the defective part.

    Note:

    HP recommends responsible disposal of the defective part.

  2. Unpack the replacement part from the packaging.

    CAUTION:

    Some parts are sensitive to electrostatic discharge (ESD). Always perform service work at an ESD-protected workstation or mat. If an ESD workstation or mat is not available, touch the sheet-metal chassis to provide a static ground before touching an ESD-sensitive assembly. Protect the ESD-sensitive assemblies by placing them in ESD pouches when they are out of the printer.

    Important:

    Make sure that all of the shipping materials (for example shipping tape) are removed from the replacement part prior to installation.

    Note:

    If the replacement part is a roller or pad, avoid touching the spongy part of it. Skin oils on the roller or pad can cause paper pickup and/or print-quality problems. HP recommends using disposable gloves when handling rollers or pads or washing your hands before touching rollers or pads.

  3. To install an assembly, reverse the removal steps.
