HP Laser NS 1020 Printers - First Time Printer Setup

This document is for HP Laser NS 1020, 1020c, and 1020w printers.
To set up a printer for the first time, remove the printer and all packing materials from the box, uncover the imaging drum, load paper into the input tray, connect the power cord, and then download and install the printer software.
note:
If you are looking for the printer software, go to 123.hp.com.

Step 1: Unpack the printer

Take the printer out of the box, and then remove all packing materials.
  1. Remove the printer from the box, and then remove all tape and packing materials from the outside of the printer.

  2. Open the top cover.

  3. Pull the orange handle toward you to remove the protective sheet from the imaging drum.

  4. Close the top cover.

  5. Recycle all packing materials.

Step 2: Load paper

Install the input tray, and then load plain white paper.
  1. Insert the input tray into its slot.

  2. Slide out the paper guides as far as possible.

  3. Load a stack of plain white paper.

  4. Slide the paper guides in until they touch the edges of the paper.

  6. Pull out the output bin extension.

Step 3: Turn on the printer and install software

Connect your printer to a power source, and then install the printer software or the HP Smart app.
  1. Plug the printer into an electrical outlet.
    The printer turns on automatically.
    note:
    Do not connect a USB cable at this time. The connection to the computer is established during software installation.

  2. Go to 123.hp.com to download the latest version of the printing software.
