HP Instant Ink - Obtaining Replacement Ink Cartridges

This document is for HP Instant Ink customers.
When you are enrolled in HP Instant Ink, you do not need to purchase replacement ink cartridges from retail stores. Review the following:
  • HP monitors the ink levels when your printer is connected to the Internet and Web Services is turned on.
  • Replacement ink cartridges are automatically shipped when your ink cartridges have enough ink to print twice the number of pages included in your monthly plan. You do not receive replacement ink cartridges every month, but they should arrive before you run out of ink.
  • Replacement ink cartridges can take up to 10 days to arrive, which should be sufficient for customers with regular usage. Customers with high-volume printing needs can sign in to their account, and then contact Support to request expedited shipping if they believe their ink cartridges might not arrive before running out of ink.
  • HP Instant Ink cartridges contain more ink than standard ink cartridges and last longer.
  • HP Instant Ink cartridges cannot be purchased from retailers, or returned to retailers for loyalty rewards or other credits. They are available only through the HP Instant Ink service, and are the property of HP. Use the postage-paid recycling materials provided to return used HP Instant Ink cartridges to HP.*
*Cartridge recycling is not available in Italy or Portugal. Follow local regulations to dispose of cartridges responsibly.
When HP sends an ink shipment, you receive a notification email, and the Current Status for the cartridge on your HP Instant Ink account page is updated. Sign in to your HP Instant Ink account page to check the status of a shipment, see where your ink cartridges are during shipment, and the date of delivery.
  1. Go to hpinstantink.com/signin (the HP Connected website) to sign in to your HP Instant Ink account, if you are not signed in already.

  2. At the top of the Status area on your HP Instant Ink account page, click the refresh icon to obtain the most current information about your account. Look for a green checkmark and Online to make sure your printer is connected to the HP Instant Ink service.
    If the printer status is not online, make sure your printer is turned on and connected to the network, then click the refresh icon again.

  3. Review the Current Status information in the My Ink section.

    • Instant Ink Cartridge Installed: Indicates the HP Instant Ink cartridge is installed correctly and no shipment is required. HP sends an ink shipment when you still have enough ink to print twice the number of pages included in your monthly plan.
    • Non Instant Ink Cartridge Installed: Indicates the ink cartridge is not an HP Instant Ink cartridge and the ink levels are not being monitored by the HP Instant Ink service. You can use other ink cartridges in your printer, but unless you cancel your enrollment, you are still charged the monthly fee. If any of the ink cartridges installed in your enrolled printer are HP Instant Ink cartridges, then the pages you print are counted as plan, rollover, or additional pages.

    • Shipped: Indicates replacement HP Instant Ink cartridges have shipped.
    • Delivered: Indicates replacement HP Instant Ink cartridges were likely delivered.
  4. To find tracking numbers for shipments, click Shipped or Delivered, then click the tracking number to see exactly where your package is or when it was delivered. Tracking numbers are not available in cases where shipments were made more than 90 days ago.
  5. To see all ink shipments, click My Ink in the left navigation area, and then View your entire shipment history, or click the plus sign icon next to each cartridge to expand the status history for that cartridge.

  6. If you did not receive a package and the tracking number indicates the package was delivered, check with other household members to see if the HP Instant Ink package has been misplaced.
  7. If you did not find the package and want to request a shipment of ink, contact HP support. On your HP Instant Ink account page, click Chat at the top of the page to open a chat with HP support.

  8. To find a phone number for HP Support in your location, follow these steps:
    1. Click Contact HP Support in the Help Center area of your HP Instant Ink account page.
    2. On the HP Customer Support - Contact page, scroll down, and then fill out the contact form.
    3. Click Show options.
      HP contact options display on the screen.
    4. Select Chat Now or Get Phone Number.
