HP VoiceTabs - Making and Receiving Phone Calls (Android 4.2/Jelly Bean)

This document applies to HP VoiceTabs with Android 4.2/Jelly Bean operating system.
HP VoiceTabs have built-in voice calling features that allow you to use the phone-tablet in the same way you would use a smart phone. Use this document to learn more about the phone features on your VoiceTab.
Inserting SIM cards
HP VoiceTabs have two SIM card slots, enabling the simultaneous use of two services in one device. Both SIM cards are in standby mode when not in use. When you make or receive a phone call on one SIM card, the other SIM card is temporarily inactive for the duration of the call.
To access the SIM card slots, remove the back cover of the device. The slots are located beside the battery in the Slate 7 VoiceTab, and above the battery in the Slate 6 VoiceTab.

  2. miniSIM card slot (SIM2)
  3. microSD memory card slot
When both SIM card slots are in use, the status bar at the top of the VoiceTab screen displays two signal-strength bars, accompanied by the numbers 1 and 2. If one of the SIM card slots is empty, the signal-strength bar is replaced by a SIM icon with a question mark.

The microSIM, which supports W-CDMA and GSM, is number 1 (SIM1). The miniSIM, which supports GSM only, is number 2 (SIM2). When making a call with both SIM card slots in use, you can select which SIM card you want to bill each time you make a call.
Making a phone call
Follow the steps in this section to place an outgoing call using the VoiceTab.
  1. On the Home screen, touch the blue phone icon.
  2. The keypad appears, with three tabs at the top of the screen: phone , call history , and contacts . Select the phone tab to enter a phone number using the keypad.
  3. Touch the numbers on the keypad to enter the phone number you want to call.

  4. Touch one of the green phone icons (either 1 or 2 ) to place the call from the corresponding SIM card.
      note:
If only one SIM card is installed in the device, only one green phone icon is active.
  5. To end the phone call, touch the red bar with a white phone icon at the bottom of the screen.
Answering a phone call
Use the information in this section to answer or decline an incoming call on your VoiceTab.
  note:
When you make or receive a phone call on one SIM card, the other SIM card is temporarily inactive for the duration of the call. Incoming calls to the other SIM card go directly to voicemail.
When there is an incoming call on the VoiceTab, the screen shows a white phone icon with a circle of dots:

This option is only available when you have at least one call active and one call waiting. See Making a conference call for more information.
Making a conference call
You can begin a conference call whenever there is more than one active call on your VoiceTab (either incoming or outgoing). Join multiple active calls into a conference call, and manage the conference call settings, using the steps in this section.
  1. Begin a call with the first person you want to add to the conference. See Making a phone call for instructions, if needed.
  2. Touch the add caller icon at the bottom of the screen. The first caller is put on hold while you dial the next caller.
  3. Use the keypad to enter a phone number, or select the contacts tab at the top of the screen to find the saved contact you want to call.
  4. When the second contact answers the phone call, touch the start/resume conference call icon to merge the two active calls, allowing each participant to hear and speak to the others on the call.
      note:
Once the conference call begins, the add caller icon replaces the start/resume conference call icon.
  5. To add more conference call participants, repeat steps 2 through 4.
  6. To pause the conference, putting all callers on hold, touch the pause icon.
  7. You can manage the conference call by putting individual callers on hold, or removing individual callers from the conference. Touch the Manage conference option to view the conference call settings.

People from your contacts list can be identified by the small grey triangle at the bottom of the contact image. The triangle indicates that the contact's details can be edited.
