HP iPAQ 500 Voice Messenger Series - Battery Saving Tips

Introduction
You can change certain settings on your iPAQ to make the battery last as long as possible between charges.
Conserving battery
Here are some recommendations to conserve battery life:
  • Keep connected to AC power
Leave your iPAQ connected to AC power at all possible times when not using it.
  • Set period for display time out
    1. Tap Start > Settings > More… > Power Management.
    2. Select Display time out. Set it to 30 seconds or any other acceptable period.
    3. Then tap Done.
  • Dim the back light/reduce the brightness
    1. Tap Start > Settings > More… > Power Management.
    2. Scroll to the Brightness list and increase or decrease the brightness to adjust it to an acceptable level.
    3. Then tap Done.
  • Auto turn off the back light
    1. Tap Start > Settings > More… > Power Management.
    2. Set Back light time out on battery to 5 to 10 seconds or a suitable time period.
    3. Then tap Done.
  • Turn off sound
Every time you are notified of an event, battery power is consumed.
Tap Start > Settings > Sounds and then turn off any notifications that are unnecessary.
  • Turn off Bluetooth and Wi-Fi
Always turn off Bluetooth and Wi-Fi when you are not using them.
    • To turn off Bluetooth:
      1. Tap Start > Settings > Connections > Bluetooth.
      2. Then tap Menu > Turn off Bluetooth.
    • To turn off Wi-Fi:
      1. Tap Start > Settings > Connections > Wi-Fi.
      2. Then tap Menu > Turn off Wi-Fi.
  • Adjust ActiveSync settings
When ActiveSync receives updates, it uses your iPAQ's cellular radio to connect to an Exchange server, which consumes battery power.
    • Adjust ActiveSync settings:
      1. Tap Start > More > ActiveSync > Menu > Schedule.
      2. Select how frequently ActiveSync should synchronize.
      note:
Scheduling updates "As items arrive" causes your phone to maintain a constant connection with the Exchange server. If a longer synchronization interval is selected, battery performance will be better.
Checking battery power
To check the battery power, follow the steps below.
  • Tap Start > Settings > More… > Power Management.
HP also offers a variety of accessories to keep your iPAQ charged when you are out of the office for extended time periods. These include the mini-USB synchronization cable and travel adapter. Use original HP batteries and chargers to charge your iPAQ.
