Replacing Cartridges for HP Deskjet D4160, D4163, and D4168 Printers

Introduction

This document provides information about replacing the print cartridges.

Replacing print cartridges

Follow these steps to replace the print cartridge.

Step one: Replace the old print cartridge

  1. Make sure the product is turned on.
  2. Open the print carriage access door.
  3. Wait until the print carriage moves to the right side of product and is idle and silent.
  4. Press down on the print cartridge to remove it from the slot, and then slide it out of the print carriage.
  5. Remove the new print cartridge from its packaging, and then carefully remove the plastic tape by using the pink pull tab.

    3. Ink nozzles under tape
      caution:
    Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or ink nozzles. Touching these parts can result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections.
  6. Slide the print cartridge at a slight upward angle into the print carriage until it snaps into place.

  7. Close the print carriage access door.
      warning:
    Keep both new and used print cartridges out of the reach of children.
  8. Wait until the print carriage moves to the right side of the product and is idle and silent.

Step two: Align the new print cartridge

  1. Load Letter or A4 size, unused, plain, white paper in the input tray.
  2. Open the printer Toolbox. Follow these steps to open the printer Toolbox.
    1. From the File menu in the software program, click Print. The Print dialog box appears.
    2. Click the Properties button. The Print Properties dialog box appears.
    3. Click the Features tab.
    4. Click Printer services. The printer Toolbox appears.
  3. Click Align the Print Cartridges.
  4. Click Align, and then follow the on-screen instructions.
    The product prints a test page, aligns the print cartridges, and then calibrates the product. Recycle or discard the test page.
