HP iPAQ Pocket PC h5100, h5400, and h5500 - Installing and Removing the Battery

Introduction
If the main battery is removed from the HP iPAQ Pocket PC, the device does not operate even if connected to AC power. However, the HP Pocket PC has a small internal backup battery that allows the main battery to charge without losing RAM data (user-installed programs and data) as long as it is replaced within 10 minutes. If the battery is removed from the unit for longer than 10 minutes, unsaved RAM data will be lost.
Fully charge the HP iPAQ Pocket PC battery before setting up the unit, and recharge regularly. The HP Pocket PC uses some power to maintain files in RAM and the clock. While working at a desk, keep the HP Pocket PC connected to the universal desktop cradle. When traveling, carry the AC adapter, charger adapter plug, or an optional spare battery.
The HP iPAQ Pocket PC is shipped with the battery partially charged.
  note:
The model shown in the illustrations is the HP iPAQ Pocket PC h5500 series.
Installing the battery
Follow these steps to install the removable/rechargeable battery:
  1. Locate the battery.
  2. Insert the tabs on the bottom of the battery into the slots on the HP iPAQ Pocket PC.
  3. Push the battery upward and snap into place.

  1. Push up on the latch at the top of the battery.
  2. Pull the top of the battery away from the device.

  caution:
Because most of the applications and data installed on the HP iPAQ Pocket PC are held in memory (RAM), they must be reinstalled if the battery completely discharges or if the battery is removed from the unit for extended periods of time.  Applications and data installed in the HP iPAQ File Store folder do not need to be be reinstalled because they are saved in ROM.
