Configuring a port manually
It is also possible to create ports manually. Create ports during the driver installation process or separately from the installation process of a printer. This second case is useful when an already installed printer has to be connected to a different port.
-
Open the Printers dialog and go to File, Server Properties. The Server Properties dialog contains tabs where ports can be added, deleted and managed. Click Add Port… and click OK.Select HP Standard TCP/IP port (will be available only if you have previously used the MacroInstaller to create a TCP/IP port). Click New Port.Type the printer IP address in the dialog.
-
Once the IP address has been typed, a generic name (IP_x.x.x.x, where x.x.x.x is the IP address) will appear as the default port name. This name can be modified if desired. Finally, click Finish to finish the port creation.Connecting a printer to a portOnce a port is created, you can connect a printer to it. To do so, the printer has to be selected in the Printers control panel dialog to access to its properties. Right-click on the printer icon and select Properties. Click the Ports tab. Select the desired port on the list and check the check box to its left. Click OK.
