About HP Smart Advance

HP Smart Advance offers you a premium HP Smart experience for your HP+ or an eligible non-HP+ printer. If you have an HP+ printer, when you agree to the HP+ terms of service, you will receive a 24-month trial of HP Smart Advance. For eligible non-HP+ printers, such as HP Smart Tank 790 and 7600 printer series, you will receive a 12-month trial of HP Smart Advance.

Note:

An HP account is required to use HP Smart, and not all mobile devices or countries/regions have access to all settings at this time.

HP Smart Advance features

In addition to the benefits of HP Smart, HP Smart Advance provides the following extra features for HP+ printers:

  • Advanced scan:

    • Multi-item recognition: Scan multiple items at the same time and automatically separate each item into individual pages.

    • Book scanning: Scan an open book and automatically flatten pages and save all scanned pages into a single file.

    • ID Card scanning: Scan the front and back of an ID card and combine on a single page.

    • Auto-Heal: Remove distracting marks and Hole punches.

    • Save as Text Files: Save scans as searchable PDF, TXT, and DOCX files.

  • Shortcuts:

    • Save as Text Files: Save scans as searchable PDF, TXT, and DOCX files.

    • Smart File Name: Name a file automatically based on the content of the file.

  • Mobile productivity:

Advanced Scan

Access the Scan tile (Windows and Mac), or the Camera Scan or Printer Scan tile (Android and iOS) from HP Smart home page to use advanced scanning capabilities.

Multi-item recognition

Multi-item recognition is available in the HP Smart app when you scan from the HP+ printer's scanner glass or a mobile device camera.

  1. From the app home screen, select your printer, and then click the Scan tile (Windows, Mac), or the Camera Scan or Printer Scan tile (Android, iOS).

  2. If you selected Scan or Printer Scan, click the Settings icon , and then select Scanner Glass as your Source and Multi-item as your Preset.

  3. Place 2 or 3 different items such as business cards, receipts, documents, or photos on your printer's scanner (or on a flat surface to capture them from a camera).

  4. Click Scan or tap the Capture button to begin the scan job.

    A preview displays the scanned items separately.

  5. Choose to save the scan as a single file or separate files.

Book scanning

Book scanning is available in your HP Smart app when scanning from the HP+ printer's scanner glass or mobile device camera.

  1. From the app home screen, select your printer, and then click the Scan tile (Windows, Mac), or the Camera Scan or Printer Scan tile (Android, iOS).

  2. If you selected Scan or Printer Scan, click the Settings icon , and then select Scanner Glass as your Source and Book as your Preset.

  3. Place an open book on the scanner glass (or on a flat surface to capture them from a camera).

  4. Click Scan or tap the Capture button to begin the scan job.

  5. Choose to save the scan as a single file or separate files.

ID Card scanning

ID Card scanning is available from HP Smart when scanning from the scanner glass or a mobile device camera.

  1. From the app Home screen, select your printer, and then click the Scan tile (Windows, Mac), or the Camera Scan or Printer Scan tile (Android, iOS).

  2. If you selected Scan or Printer Scan, click the Settings icon , and then select Scanner Glass as your Source and ID Card as your Preset.

  3. Place the ID card (front) on the scanner glass (or on a flat surface to capture them from a camera).

  4. Click Scan or tap the Capture button to begin the scan job.

  5. After scanning completes, place the ID card (back) on the scanner glass (or on a flat surface to capture them from a camera).

  6. Click Scan or tap the Capture button to begin the scan job.

  7. Click or tap Next on the ID Card Front and ID Card Back screen if you are satisfied with the result. You may select Menu icon to edit or replace the scanned items.

  8. Save, print, share, or fax the scanned file.

Auto-Heal

Auto-Heal is an HP Smart Advance scan feature that automatically removes distracting marks, such as hole punches or hands from a scan.

In the HP Smart app Scan window, toggle this feature on or off by clicking the Enhancements icon (Windows, Mac) or tapping the Preferences icon (iOS, Android).

Save scans as text files

For HP+ printers, you can scan a document or photo using the HP Smart app, and then save it as a PDF, Word document, or plain text file.
