Find product and serial numbers for HP PCs, printers, and accessories

Every HP product has a product number and unique serial number. Reference these numbers when working with customer support agents, finding drivers and support documents, servicing the product, or determining warranty status.

Note:

The name and number on the front of the product might not be sufficient to get proper support. These names and numbers often represent a series of many product models that look similar, but have different options and parts.

In addition, the name and number on the front of the product might vary by country/region. The best way to find HP product information or to confirm your warranty status is to find your product name and model number (or Product NO or P/N on labels) and serial number (or Serial NO, S/N, or SN on labels).

Product name and model number (or Product NO or P/N on labels): Identifies your product in a series (for example, HP Spectre Folio - 13-ak0001na). Use this information to download the correct drivers and apps and find support documents.
Serial number (or Serial NO, S/N, or SN on labels): Identifies your specific HP product. Use this number to service your product, find warranty status, or work with HP Customer Support representatives.

Printers

Locate HP printer product, model, and serial numbers on the label or from support apps.

To find ink and toner cartridge numbers, go to HP Printer Ink, Toner, & Cartridges.

Note:

Most cartridges do not have a serial number.

Product name (or model number): This is the printer brand name typically found on the front or top of the printer. HP Tango and HP DeskJet 2545 are examples of product names.

Extra letters in a product name indicate differences between the same types of printers. For example, the HP LaserJet Pro M125a supports USB connections only. The HP LaserJet Pro M125nw supports wireless and wired network connections.
Series name: A group of similar printers. For example, an OfficeJet Pro 8720 Printer series contains the OfficeJet Pro 8720, 8725, and 8728 printers.
Serial number: A unique number that represents a single printer. Every printer that HP releases has its own unique serial number applied to the surface of the printer.
Product number: A small, one-word name that represents an exact model of printer. K7C85A and M9C7A are examples of printer product numbers.

Find product and serial numbers on the printer label

Find the product name, number, and serial number on the label on the printer. The label might be found inside the printer cartridge access area or on the back of the printer. For some older printers, it might also be found on the bottom of the printer.

Find product and serial numbers with the HP Smart app

Find your printer name, product number, and serial number using the HP Smart app.

Procedure

Open the HP Smart app, and then create an account or sign in. If you do not have HP Smart, download it from 123.hp.com or your app store.
From the app home screen, select your printer name or image.
Click Printer Information to view the model name, product number, and serial number.

Find product and serial numbers with HP Support Assistant (Windows)

Find your printer name, product number, and serial number with HP Support Assistant on a Windows computer.

Procedure

In Windows, search for and open HP Support Assistant, or click the app icon in the taskbar.

If the app is not installed on your computer, download the latest version from the HP Support Assistant (in English) website.
If you are prompted with a Welcome screen, follow the steps to complete the initial setup.
Click My Devices > Add an HP device to search for and add your printer.

The product name, number, and serial number display in the My Printer tile.

Notebook PCs

Locate HP laptop computer product, model, and serial numbers on the label, from support apps, or in PC settings.

The model number provides the necessary series number to identify your computer. For example, if your model number is HP 15-af102us, the series name is HP 15-af100.

For configure-to-order PCs (CTO), the model number may contain a "t" or "z" before the hyphen. For example, if your model number is HP 15t-af102us, the series name is HP 15-af100.

Find product and serial numbers with HP Support Assistant

Find your computer name, product number, and serial number with HP Support Assistant.

Procedure

In Windows, search for and open HP Support Assistant, or click the app icon in the taskbar.

If the app is not installed on your computer, go to HP Support Assistant to download the latest version.
On the My Dashboard tab, locate the computer product name, product number, and serial number.

Find product and serial numbers with the HP System Information app

Open the HP System Information app to view computer information, including the product and serial number.

Procedure

Search Windows for and open HP System Information, or press Fn + esc to open the System Information window.

Note:
The keyboard press method does not work when using a docking station with an external keyboard.
Locate the product name, product number, and serial number in the window.

Desktop PCs

Locate HP desktop computer product, model, and serial numbers on the label, from support apps, or in PC settings.

Note:

Some desktop computers are sold in a bundle with a monitor, scanner, and/or printer. A bundle of products has a -b at the end of the model number. To find information for the desktop computer inside the bundle, search for the model number without the -b. For example, if your model number is 533w-b, search HP Customer Support for 533w.

Procedure

Search Windows for and open HP System Information, or press and hold ctrl + alt, and then press s to open the System Information window.
Locate the product name, product number, and serial number in the window.

All-in-One desktop PCs

Locate HP All-in-One computer product, model, and serial numbers on the label, from support apps, or in PC settings.

Find the product name, number, and serial number on the label on the computer or on the box it shipped in.

Locate the label with the serial number, product number, and model number for HP ENVY Curved All-in-One computers.

Procedure

Locate the label tab on the bottom edge of the back of the computer.
Grasp the tab, pull down firmly until the product label is visible, and then continue to gently pull the label toward the front of the computer until it is fully extended.

Find product and serial numbers with HP Support Assistant

Find your computer name, product number, and serial number with HP Support Assistant.

Procedure

In Windows, search for and open HP Support Assistant, or click the app icon in the taskbar.

If the app is not installed on your computer, go to HP Support Assistant to download the latest version.
On the My Dashboard tab, locate the computer product name, product number, and serial number.

Find product and serial numbers with the HP System Information app

Open the HP System Information app to view computer information, including the product and serial number.

Procedure

Search Windows for and open HP System Information, or press and hold ctrl + alt, and then press s to open the System Information window.
Locate the product name, product number, and serial number in the window.

Chromebooks

Locate computer model and serial numbers on the label or from the login screen.

Procedure

On the bottom of the computer, locate the label that lists the model and serial numbers (S/N).

If the label is not present, continue to the next step.
Turn the computer off and then on.
On the sign in screen, press Alt + v simultaneously to view computer information, including the serial number.

Monitors

Find the product and serial numbers of an HP monitor from the display menu or on the label.

Procedure

Turn on the monitor, and then use the buttons on the front or side of the screen to open the on-screen menu. Select Information to view the product and serial numbers.
If the monitor is not working or the on-screen menu does not list the serial number, look for a label on the back, on the underside of the pedestal, or under a cosmetic cover. The label includes the product and serial number (or Serial NO, S/N, or SN).
