Samsung SCX-4200 Laser MFP - Clearing Paper Jams

This document shows you how to clear a paper jam in the printer. When a paper jam occurs, a warning message displays on the control panel.
Refer to the table below to locate and clear the paper jam.

  caution:
To avoid tearing the paper, pull the jammed paper out gently and slowly. Follow the instructions in the following sections to clear the jam.

Jam in the paper feed area

If paper is jammed in the paper feed area, use these steps to release the jammed paper.
  1. Open and close the front cover. The jammed paper automatically exits the printer.
    If the paper does not exit, continue to the next step.
  2. Pull the tray open.

  3. Remove the jammed paper by gently pulling it straight out.

    If the paper does not move when you pull, or if you do not see the paper in this area, check in the toner cartridge area.
  4. Insert the tray back into the printer until it snaps into place. Printing automatically resumes.

Jam in the toner cartridge area

If paper is jammed inside the printer, use the steps to release the jammed paper.
note:
The fuser area is hot. Be careful when removing paper from the printer.
  1. Open the front cover and pull the toner cartridge out.

  2. Remove the jammed paper by gently pulling it straight out.

  3. Replace the toner cartridge and close the front cover. Printing automatically resumes.

Jam in the manual feeder

When you print using the manual feeder and the printer detects that there is either no paper or that the paper has been improperly loaded, use these steps to release the jammed paper.
  1. Check if the paper is stuck in the feeding area, and if so, pull it out gently and slowly.

  2. Load a paper into the manual tray.
  3. Open the front cover and close it. The printer will resume printing.

Jam in the paper exit area

If paper is jammed in the paper exit area, use the steps to release the jammed paper.
  1. Open and close the front cover. The jammed paper automatically exits the printer.
    If the paper does not exit, continue to the next step.
  2. Gently pull the paper out of the output tray. Skip to the last step.

    If you cannot find the jammed paper, or if there is any resistance removing the paper, stop pulling and go to the next step.
  3. Open the scan unit.
  4. Pull the jammed paper out gently.
  5. Close the scan unit by pushing the tab to the left. While holding the tab down lower the cover carefully until the cover holds down the tab.
    If there is any resistance and the paper does not move when you pull or if you cannot see the paper under the scan unit, continue to the next step.
  6. Open the rear cover.
  7. Remove the jammed paper by gently pulling it straight out.

  8. Close the rear cover.
  9. Open and close the front cover to resume printing.
