HP Officejet 150 Mobile All-in-One Printer Series (L511) - Replacing the Cartridges

Introduction

This document contains steps to make sure that a new cartridge is compatible with your HP product, and to replace an old cartridge with a new one.

Replacing cartridges

Follow these steps to replace a cartridge.

Step one: Check cartridge compatibility

Before you unpack a new cartridge, make sure that it is compatible with your HP product.

Purchase replacement cartridges and other supplies from the HP Store or local retailers.

Step two: Replace the old cartridge

Press the Power button () to turn on the product.
Open the front access cover. Wait until the carriage is idle and silent before proceeding.

Lift the cartridge latch, and then gently remove the cartridge from the carriage.

Remove the new cartridge from its package, and then pull the pink tab to remove the protective tape.

caution:
Do not touch the copper contacts on the rear of the cartridge or the ink nozzles on the bottom of the cartridge. Touching the contacts or the nozzles might damage the cartridge.

Insert the cartridge at a slight angle into the carriage slot.

note:
Place the tri-color cartridge in the left slot and the black or photo cartridge in the right slot.

Close the cartridge latch. Press the latch down to make sure that it rests flat on the cartridge.

Close the front access cover, and then allow the cartridge initialization process to complete before proceeding.

Step three: Align the new cartridge

Use one of the following methods to align the cartridges.

Method one: Align the cartridges using the product control panel

Load unused, plain, white paper into the tray.
On the product control panel, touch the Right Arrow () to display the second navigation screen.
Touch Setup ().
Touch Tools, and then touch Align Ink Cartridges. The alignment page prints.
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the alignment.

Method two: Align the cartridges using the Toolbox

Whenever you install a new cartridge, align the cartridges for the best possible print quality.

note:
The Full Solution software for your product must be installed in order to use the Toolbox.

note:
Make sure that you load unused, plain, white paper into the paper tray before you align the cartridges. An alignment page prints during the alignment process.

Select your operating system, and then follow the instructions to align the cartridges.

Windows XP
1. Click Start (), click All Programs, click HP, click your HP product, and then click Toolbox. The Toolbox opens.
2. Click the Services tab, and then click Align the Print Cartridges.
3. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the alignment.
Windows Vista
1. Click the Windows icon (), click Programs, click HP, click your HP product, and then click Toolbox. The Toolbox opens.
2. Click the Services tab, and then click Align the Print Cartridges.
3. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the alignment.
Windows 7
1. Click the Windows icon (), click All Programs, click HP, click your HP product, and then click Toolbox. The Toolbox opens.
2. Click the Services tab, and then click Align the Print Cartridges.
3. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the alignment.
Mac OS X
1. Double-click the HP Utility icon in the Dock. The HP Utility opens.
2. If the utility lists more than one product, click your product under Printers.
3. Click Align.
4. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the alignment.
