HP ProBook 6440b Notebook PC - Removing and Replacing Display Assembly

Introduction

This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the display assembly for the HP ProBook 6440b Notebook PC.

Tools required

Small Torx T8 screwdriver

Display assembly removal

  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:
      caution:
    Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to your product or loss of data.
  2. Disconnect the wireless LAN and wireless WAN antenna cables.
    note:
    Under warranty, the display assembly is replaced as a whole unit. For out of warranty purposes, the individual internal components can be replaced to reduce customer repair costs.
  3. On the rear of the notebook, remove the four 10 mm T8 Torx screws that secure the display assembly to the base enclosure.
  4. Open the display panel fully.
  5. Disconnect the display panel cable from its connector on the system board and remove the display panel cable from the routing channel on the top cover.
  6. Remove the wireless antenna cables from the opening in the base enclosure.
  7. Remove the wireless antenna cables from their routing channel and plastic tabs on the top cover.
  8. Disconnect the microphone cable from its connector on the system board and remove the microphone cable from the routing channel on the top cover.
  9. Remove the 10 mm T8 Torx screw from both the left and right display hinges that secures them to the base enclosure.
    note:
    Be sure to support the display assembly while removing these screws.
  10. Lift the display assembly off of the alignment pins on the top cover and remove.

Display assembly replacement

  1. Align and place the display hinges onto the alignment pins on the top cover.
  2. Replace the 10 mm T8 Torx screw into both the left and right display hinges that secures them to the base enclosure
    note:
    Be sure to support the display assembly while replacing these screws.
  3. Route the microphone cable through the routing channel on the top cover and connect the microphone cable into its connector on the system board.
  4. Route the wireless antenna cables through their routing channel and plastic tabs on the top cover.
  5. Thread the wireless antenna cables through the opening in the top cover.
  6. Route the display panel cable through its routing channel on the top cover and connect the display panel cable into its connector on the system board.
  7. Close the display panel.
  8. Replace the four 10 mm T8 Torx screws on the rear of the notebook that secure the display assembly to the base enclosure.
