HP ProBook 5320m Notebook PC - Removing and Replacing Hard Disk Drive

Introduction

This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the hard disk drive for the HP ProBook 5320m Notebook PC.

Minimum skill level

The End-User should possess product-specific knowledge and technical skill on how to service the system, and have familiarity with the operating system.

Tools required

Captive, Phillips-head (P1) screwdrivers.

The replacement part number will vary depending on the hard disk drive that is being replaced. If a part is listed as "Yes" under "Requires Return" then the defective part needs to be returned to HP. Click here for more information on returning parts to HP.

Hard disk drive removal

  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:
      caution:
    Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to your product or loss of data.
  2. Loosen the two captive P1 Phillips-head screws identified with a memory and storage drive icon that secure the accessory cover to the base enclosure.
  3. Slide the accessory cover toward the front edge of the base enclosure and remove it.
  4. Remove the two 3 mm P1 Phillips-head screws that secure the hard disk drive to the base enclosure.
  5. Loosen the captive P1 Phillips-head screw that secures the hard disk drive to the base enclosure.
  6. Grasp the mylar tab and slide the hard disk drive away from the connector on the system board.
  7. Lift the hard disk drive out of the hard disk drive bay.
  8. Place the hard disk drive in a static dissipative bag.

Hard disk drive replacement

  1. Remove the hard disk drive from the electrostatic dissipative bag.
  2. Place the hard disk drive into the drive bay and align it with the system board connector.
  3. Grasp the mylar tab and slide the hard disk drive into the connector until it is firmly seated.
  4. Tighten the captive P1 Phillips-head screw that secures the hard disk drive to the base enclosure.
  5. Replace the two 3 mm P1 Phillips-head screws that secure the hard disk drive to the base enclosure.
  6. Place the accessory cover into position on the base enclosure and slide the accessory cover.
  7. Tighten the two captive P1 Phillips-head screws identified with a memory and storage drive icon that secure the accessory cover to the base enclosure.
