LaserJet MFP's and Digital Senders - Slow Performance and/or Intermittent Digital Send Failures

Issue
Several different issues may be seen, not all devices in the same area may see the failure. Issues are sometimes intermittent or may be constant as long as a hostname is used for any digital sending capabilities such as send to email, send to folder, LDAP addressing, LDAP authentication and Kerberos authentication.
Examples of failures that have been reported:
  • Email icon disappear intermittently from the control panel of the MFP.
  • smtp gateway not responding error when attempting to send an email from the control panel.
  • LDAP bind error at server xxxxx: server down error when attempting Kerberos authentication.
  • Kerberos server not available error when attempting Kerberos authentication.
  • unable to reach error when attempting testing embedded send to folder, path not found error from the control panel of the MFP (folder share was previously working).
  • Embedded web server (EWS) locks up or is unresponsive when navigating to the Settings or Digital Sending tab.
  • Slow print performance, internal pages print slow as well as network print jobs.
  • Slow response when navigating at the MFP control panel, pressing an icon on the front panel takes a long time to respond.
  • Large fax jobs fail, log shows modem fail (72).
  • Unable to retrieve the necessary data message when attempting to add a device to DSS (device is normally already configured, restore to factory settings allows you to add the device to DSS, however slow performance may be seen after configuring any digital send features with a hostname).
  • MFP access timeout error when trying to save device settings in DSS.
  note:
Other intermittent failures can occur that are not listed above. If a hostname is used in any digital sending configuration a failure may be encountered. For troubleshooting use an IP address instead of a hostname to see if the issue is resolved. There may be hostnames used in several locations, once one error is resolved another error may be experienced if the hostname is specified in another area of the digital sending configuration.
Solution
Change the hostname to an IP address, if the failure or intermittent failure goes away upgrade to CPE 10.2 (June 2010 firmware release). If the issue is not resolved consult next level of support.
