HP Photosmart Premium Fax C410 Printers - Wireless Printer Setup (Windows)

Introduction
This document explains how to install the print drivers and other software for your printer to use it on a wireless network. If you have more than one computer on the network, install the printer software on each computer that you plan to share with the printer.
  note:
If you have not already set up your printer, click here for instructions to set up the printer hardware, and then return to this document to set up your printer on a wireless network.
Step one: Prepare for installation
  1. Gather the following items:
    •   Network name: The network name is the SSID
    •   WEP key or WPA security passphrase
    • A computer that is connected to the wireless network
    • Internet access: HP recommends broadband Internet access such as cable or DSL
        note:
Internet access is not required for you to install your printer with a wireless connection. However, you do need Internet access to use Web Services, get printer updates, and to download drivers from the HP website.
    • Your wireless-capable printer: Place it close to the computer during the installation procedure
  2. Make sure that the printer, router, and computer are all turned on, and that the computer is connected to the same wireless network you want to connect the printer to.
  3. Disconnect any USB or Ethernet cable that is connected to the printer.
  4. Optional: If you previously installed the software for a USB connection and now want to change to a wireless network connection, follow these instructions to remove the USB installation before you continue.
  1. Turn on the product.
  2. On the product control panel, press Wireless ().
  3. Press the Down Arrow button () to highlight Wireless Setup Wizard, and then press OK. The Wireless Setup Wizard searches for networks, and then displays them in a list.
  4. Press the Down Arrow button () to highlight the network name (SSID) that you gathered in the previous step, and then press OK.
If the network name does not appear in the list, follow these steps:
    1. Press the Down Arrow button () to highlight Enter New Network Name (SSID), and then press OK. The on-screen keyboard displays on the control panel.
    2. Enter the SSID: Use the four-way arrow buttons on the product control panel to highlight a letter or number on the on-screen keyboard, and then press OK to select it.
        note:
Make sure that you enter the uppercase (capital) and lowercase (small) letters exactly. Otherwise, the wireless connection fails.
    3. When you finish entering the SSID, use the arrow buttons to highlight Done on the on-screen keyboard, and then press OK.
    4. Press the Down Arrow button () to highlight Infrastructure, and then press OK.
    5. Press the Down Arrow button () to highlight WEP encryption or WPA encryption, and then press OK.
        note:
If you are not using WEP encryption, press the Down Arrow button () to highlight No, my network does not use encryption, and then press OK.
  5. If prompted, enter the WPA or WEP key:
    1. Use the arrow buttons on the product control panel to highlight a letter or number on the on-screen keyboard, and then press OK to select it.
        note:
Make sure that you enter the uppercase (capital) and lowercase (small) letters exactly. Otherwise, the wireless connection fails.
    2. When you finish entering the key, use the arrow buttons to highlight Done on the on-screen keyboard, and then press OK.
  6. Make sure that the product successfully connects to the network before continuing to the next step.
      note:
If a connection error message displays, make sure that the network name and security key are correct, and then follow the prompts to enter the information again.
  note:
As an alternative method to downloading the software, you can use the installation CD.
  1. Turn on the printer.
  2. If your printer is connected to the computer with a USB cable, disconnect the cable from the printer.
  3. If prompted, select a method to identify your printer model, and then follow the on-screen instructions to go to the download page.
  4. Click Download next to the full feature driver (recommended), or click Basic Drivers for other driver options.
You can print a network configuration page from the control panel of your product. The page includes the product IP and MAC addresses, as well as the product network status. Follow these steps to print the page:
  1. On the product control panel, press Wireless ().
  2. Press the Down Arrow button () to select View Network Settings, and then press OK.
  3. Press the Down Arrow button () to select Print Network Configuration Page, and then press OK.
