HP dx9000 TouchSmart Business PC - Removing and Replacing the covers

Introduction

This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the covers for the HP dx9000 TouchSmart Business PC.

Minimum skill level

The End User requires no hardware-specific training to replace the defective part. The End user should have familiarity with system hardware and software requiring repair.

Tools required

Cover removal

note:
This procedure includes removal and replacement instructions for the memory cover, optical drive cover, connector cover, computer stand, and back cover. To remove the back cover, all of these items must be removed.
  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:
      caution:
    Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to your product or loss of data.
  2. Place the computer face down on a soft, flat surface such as a blanket or towel to protect the touch screen surface from scratches or other damage. Remove the wireless keyboard and mouse receiver.
  3. Lift the computer stand to an upright position (about 90 degrees) and then move the latch to the left until it is in the locked position.
  4. Remove the memory cover by removing the Phillips-head screw that secures the cover to the back of the computer.
  5. Gently pull up on the bottom edge of the memory cover to release it and then slide the cover back and remove it.
  6. Remove the computer stand by removing the four Phillips-head screws that secure it to the back of the computer.
  7. Lift the computer stand off of the computer.
  8. Remove the connector cover by inserting your finger under the gap on the bottom left side of the cover and pulling gently until it releases.
  9. Rotate the cover up and remove.
  10. Remove the optical drive cover by inserting your finger under the gap near the eject button and then rotating the cover out and away from the computer.
  11. To remove the back cover, remove the nine Phillips-head screws that secure the back cover to the chassis.
      caution:
    Make sure that the wireless keyboard and mouse receiver is removed.
  12. Remove the two screws on either side of the optical drive.
  13. Remove the two screws located at the bottom edge of the cover near the corners.
  14. Remove the two screws inside the memory area.
  15. Remove the three screws in the connector area.
  16. Use both hands to lift the bottom edge of the cover and rotate it back.
  17. Lift the cover away from the chassis.

Cover replacement

  1. Place the back cover on the chassis so the tabs on the top edge align with the slots on the front bezel.
  2. Rotate the back cover down until it meets the chassis.
  3. Press along the outside edges of the back cover to snap it into place.
  4. Replace the two screws inside the memory area.
  5. Replace the two screws located on the bottom edge of the cover near the corners.
  6. Replace the three screws in the connector area.
  7. Replace the connector cover by aligning the hinge tabs on the right side with the slots in the back cover.
  8. Rotate the connector cover down until it snaps into place.
  9. Replace the two screws on either side of the optical drive.
  10. Replace the optical drive cover by aligning the tabs with the slots in the back cover and push until it snaps into place.
  11. Replace the computer stand by replacing the four Phillips-head screws that secure it to the back of the computer.
  12. Replace the memory cover by sliding it into position over the memory area until it snaps into place.
  13. Replace the screw that secures the memory cover to the back of the computer.
