HP and Compaq Desktop PCs - Clear CMOS Setting Printed Incorrectly on the Motherboard

This document applies to HP and Compaq desktop computers with the IPMTB-TK (Truckee) motherboard.
The Clear CMOS/Clear P.W. settings are printed incorrectly on some versions of the IPMTB-TK (Truckee) motherboard. On some boards the CLRTC pinouts are incorrectly printed as:
  • 1-2: Normal
  • 2-3: Clear

The correct settings are:
  • 1-2: Clear
  • 2-3: Normal

Clearing the CMOS settings

Follow these steps to clear the CMOS settings
  1. Turn off the computer and unplug the power cord.
  2. Move the CLEAR CMOS/CLEAR P.W. jumper cap from pins 2-3 to pins 1-2.
  3. Plug in the power cord and turn on the computer for five seconds.
  4. Turn off the computer again and unplug the power cord.
  5. Move the CLEAR CMOS/CLEAR P.W. jumper cap from pins 1-2 to pins 2-3.
  6. Plug in the power cord and turn on the computer.
    The CMOS settings are now clear. To enter BIOS setup, press the F10 key when the first screen displays upon system setup.
