HP Notebook PCs - Steps for Removing and Replacing the Expansion Memory

This document provides instructions for the removal and replacement of the expansion memory for the nx7400 and nx7300 series notebook PCs.
Use the video as a guide while following the written instructions below.
To view the video press the Play button on the player control bar below the video.

Step 1 - Remove the battery
  1. Slide and hold both battery locking latches to the unlocked position.
  2. Slide the battery out of the battery bay.
Step 2 - Remove the expansion memory board
  1. Loosen the captive P0 Phillips-head screw that secures the expansion memory cover to the bottom of the notebook.
  2. Use your finger or a flat-bladed tool to lift the edge of the expansion memory cover and remove it.
  3. Push both arms outward simultaneously to release the expansion memory board to the spring tension position.
      caution:
    When handling a memory board, use care to prevent touching the memory chips on the board. Touching the memory chips could damage or destroy the memory.
  4. Grasp the expansion memory board by the edges and pull gently to remove it.
  5. Place the expansion memory board in a static dissipative bag.
Step 3 - Replace the expansion memory board
  1. Remove the expansion memory board from the static dissipative bag.
  2. Locate the alignment slot and align it to the empty board receptacle.
  3. Grasp the expansion memory board by the edges and push gently to replace it.
  4. Press the expansion memory board down to latch the arms.
  5. Toe the expansion memory cover into the enclosure.
  6. Tighten the captive P0 Phillips-head screw.
Step 4 - Replace the battery
  1. Slide the battery into the battery bay until it is properly seated and the locking latches click.
      note:
    The 6-cell battery for the nx7400 notebook has a square tab on the front edge that fits into a square hole in the front edge of the battery bay to prevent it from being installed in any other notebook.
