HP Designjet 455CA Printer - HP Designjet 455CA RIP Driver for Macintosh, Installation

The HP Designjet 455CA printer ships with a CD that contains the RIP Software and Driver for the Macintosh.

Installing the RIP software

Before installing the RIP software, restart the Macintosh with Extensions turned off. It is recommended to use the Extensions Manager to do this. The Extensions Manager can be found in the Control Panels under the Apple Menu.
  1. In the Extensions Manager, change Selected Set to Mac OS 8.x or 9.x Base.
  2. Restart the Macintosh.
  3. Insert the CD that shipped with the printer.
  4. Open the CD by double clicking on the CD icon.
  5. On the first level of the CD, there are 6 folders. Open the PowerMac folder, there are 6 installer icons. These installer icons are localized into different languages.
  6. Double-click the desired language installer icon.
  7. Read the License Agreement and click Accept.
  8. Click Install.
  9. At the end of this installation, the installer will require that the Macintosh be restarted.

Installing the Laserwriter driver

Use the following instructions if the Mac is using Operating System 8.5 or earlier:
  1. Insert the HP Designjet 455CA CD into the computer.
  2. Double-click the 455CA CD.
  3. Open the Mac_Bits Folder.
  4. Open the Laserwriter 8.5.1 Folder.
  5. Double-click the Installer File. This will install the Laserwriter 8.5.1 driver.
  6. Open the Mac_Bits folder again, double-click the English PPD only Installer.
  7. Click Accept, then choose the preferred language PPD to install.
  8. Click Install.
Use the following instructions if the Mac is using Operating System 8.6 through 9.2.2:
note:
DO NOT install the Laserwriter 8.5.1 driver on Operating Systems 8.6 or newer. Macintoshes with OS 8.6 and above, ship with a newer version of the Laserwriter driver. These systems must use the newer versions of the Laserwriter driver.

Setting up the RIP Software

Once the RIP software is installed, a Designjet 455CA Folder will be located on the hard drive.
  1. Open the Designjet 455CA Folder.
  2. Double-click the HP 455CA RIP application. A Designjet 455CA General Setup window will appear.
  3. Under Device, select the correct size of the printer. D/A1 Size=24”, E/A0 Size=36”.
    note:
    If your printer is on a network with zones, select the Zone the printer is in and proceed to step 4. If your printer is not on a network, then proceed to step 4.
  4. In the Printer box, the hardware name of the printer will appear. Select it. Example of hardware name: HP Designjet 080009d78df7
  5. Click the Checkmark then OK to the Exit message. The General Setup window will close and the main RIP window will be open.
  6. Select the Chooser under the Apple Menu.
  7. Select Laserwriter8 on the left and the Rip Name on the right. Example RIP Name: HP DJ 455CA - D/A1.
    note:
    The RIP Name will not appear on the right side of Chooser if the main RIP window is not open.
  8. Click Create. The Chooser will create a Desktop Printer and set up the 455CA for printing.
  9. Close the Chooser.
  10. Locate the Desktop Printer the Chooser has created. Click the icon to highlight it, then from the Menu Bar, select Printing and Set Default Printer.
  11. Now go back to the RIP window.
  12. From the RIP window’s TEST menu, select Test Print. This will test the connection between the RIP software and the printer.
  13. If the Test Print prints, the RIP software is ready.
  14. If the Test Print does not print, go back to Step 1.
