HP Deskjet 450 Series Printer - Deskjet Control Panel for DOS

HP Deskjet Control Panel overview

The HP Deskjet Control Panel for DOS is software that replaces the front panel switches found on older HP Deskjet printers. The Control Panel is not a printer driver; it must be used along with the DOS software's printer drivers. When there is no specific printer driver available in a program for the printer being used, the Control Panel allows access to some print settings and features that may not be available through the DOS program. If settings are available in both the DOS program's printer settings and the Control Panel, the settings made in the DOS program should override those made in the Control Panel.
note:
The Control Panel does not support many of the special printing features available from the Windows printer driver. For more information, see the online help.

Installing the Control Panel for DOS from the Starter CD

Before installing the Control Panel, make sure the printer is set up and turned on.
  1. Insert the Starter CD into the CD-ROM drive.
  2. Exit Windows to DOS and at the DOS prompt C:\>, type the CD-ROM drive letter followed by a colon (:) and press Enter. For example, type D: and press Enter.
  3. Type CD \DRIVERS\DOS\EUROPE and then press Enter. This will change to the directory containing the files for the Control Panel.
  4. Type INSTALL and then press Enter.
  5. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation.

Using the Control Panel for DOS

note:
The Control Panel was not designed to run from Windows in a DOS shell. Errors may occur when running the Control Panel while shelled out to DOS.
  1. At the DOS prompt C:\>, type CD \HP450 and press Enter. This will change to the directory containing the files for the Control Panel.
  2. Type DJCP and press Enter. This will start the Control Panel.
  3. Select printer settings that are not available from your DOS programs. Printer settings that are selected from a DOS program may override printer settings selected from the Control Panel.

Command line switches

The following command line switches can be used. For example, to select the printer on parallel port 2 (LPT2), type DJCP /P2 at the DOS (C:\>) prompt.
  • /Px - Specifies the parallel port to which the printer is connected. Valid values for "x" are 1, 2, or 3. If this switch is not included, the Control Panel will default to the port it used the last time you ran the Control Panel (or the value set during installation if you have not used the control panel before).
  • /? - Displays help about using the DJCP command.
  • /H - Displays help about using the DJCP command.
  • /M - Changes the colors used in the Control Panel to be compatible with monochrome displays.

Known problems

If print settings are changed through the Control Panel while a document is currently printing, the printout may be corrupted, and the printer may not receive the new settings.
