HP EliteBook 2740p Tablet PC - Removing and Replacing the Storage Drive

Introduction

This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the storage drive for the HP EliteBook 2740p Tablet PC.

Minimum skill level

The End-User should possess product-specific knowledge and technical skill on how to service the system, and have familiarity with the operating system.

Tools required

Small, Phillips-head (P0 and P1) screwdrivers

Part numbers are subject to change.
The replacement part number will vary depending on the storage drive that is being replaced. If a part is listed as "Yes" under "Requires Return" then the defective part needs to be returned to HP. Click here for more information on returning parts to HP.

Storage drive removal

  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:

    Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to your product or loss of data.
  2. On the bottom of the notebook, loosen the three captive P1 Phillips-head screws identified with a memory and storage drive icon that secure the accessory cover to the bottom of the notebook.
  3. Lift the accessory cover and remove it.
  4. Remove the two 3 mm P0 Phillips-head screws that secure the storage drive bracket to the base enclosure.
  5. Lift the rear edge of the storage drive bracket off of its alignment pins and slide its tab out of the slot on the base enclosure and remove.
  6. Grasp the Mylar tab that is attached to the storage drive and lift the storage drive away from its connector on the system board.
  7. Slide the storage drive out from underneath the lip on the base enclosure and remove.
  8. Place the storage drive in an electrostatic dissipative bag.

Storage drive replacement

  1. Remove the storage drive from the electrostatic dissipative bag.
  2. Toe the storage drive underneath the lip on the base enclosure.
  3. Lower the storage drive onto its connector on the system board and press down on the storage drive to secure it into position.
  4. Toe the tab on the front edge of the storage drive bracket into its slot on the base enclosure and lower the storage drive bracket onto its alignment pins on the base enclosure.
  5. Replace the two 3 mm P0 Phillips-head screws that secure the storage drive bracket to the base enclosure.
  6. Toe the accessory cover into the base enclosure and lower it into position.
  7. Tighten the three captive P1 Phillips-head screws identified with a memory and storage drive icon that secure the accessory cover to the bottom of the notebook.
