This document provides instructions on how to load paper into the paper tray.

Paper tray overview

To change the size of the paper in the tray, adjust the paper guides.

note:
If you do not adjust the guide, it may cause paper registration, image skew, or paper jams.
The paper quantity indicator shows the amount of paper in the tray.

Loading paper in the tray

Use the following steps to load paper into the tray.
note:
When printing using the tray, do not load paper in the manual feeder. It might cause a paper jam.
  1. Remove the paper tray from the printer.
  2. Using the tray extension guide (1), adjust the tray size to the paper size being loaded (2).

  3. Adjust the paper length guide and the paper width guide to the paper size.

  4. Flex or fan the edge of the paper stack to separate the pages before loading.

  5. Load the paper in the tray.

  6. Squeeze the paper length guide and slide it to the stack of paper until it lightly touches the side of the stack.

    note:
    • Do not push the paper width guides far enough to cause the materials to warp.
    • Do not use paper with a leading-edge curl, it might cause a paper jam or wrinkle the paper.
    • If you do not adjust the paper width guide, it might cause paper jams.

  7. Reinstall the tray.

  8. Open the output support.

Loading paper in the manual feeder

The paper tray can hold special sizes and types of print material, such as postcards, note cards, and envelopes.
Tips on using the manual feeding in tray:
  • Load only one type, size and weight of print media at a time in the in the tray.
  • If you select Manual Feeder for the paper source in your software application, you need to press Print screen or Demo page, or the WPS button each time you print a page. Load only one type, size and weight of print media at a time on the manual tray.
  • To prevent paper jams, do not add paper while printing when there is still paper in the manual feeder.
  • Load print media face up in the center of the tray with the top edge going into the manual feeder first.
  • To ensure print quality and to prevent paper jams, only load the available paper.
  • Flatten any curl on postcards, envelopes, and labels before loading them into the manual feeder.
  • When printing on special media, you must follow the loading guidelines.
  • When papers overlap while printing using the manual feeder, open tray 1 and remove the papers. Then try printing again.
  • When paper does not feed well while printing, push the paper in manually until it starts feeding automatically.
  • When the printer is in power save mode, it does not feed paper from the manual feeder. Wake up the printer by pressing the power button before using the manual feeder.
Use the instructions for loading paper into the manual tray.
  1. Open the cover on the manual feeder.

  2. Extend the manual feeder guides to a wider width than the print material.

  3. Adjust the manual feeder guides to the width of the print material without bending it.

  4. Open the output support.

Printing on special media

The paper setting in the printer and driver should match. This will prevent a paper mismatch error.
To change the paper setting in the printer, go to Samsung Easy Printer Manager, select Switch to advanced mode > Device Settings.
Then, set the paper type from the Printing Preferences window > Paper tab > Paper Type.
For example, if you want to print on labels, select Labels for Paper Type.
note:
  • When using special media, feed one sheet at a time.
  • If the special media prints with curls, wrinkles, creases, or black bold lines, open the rear cover and try printing again. Keep the rear cover opened during printing.
