Loading Paper and Envelopes for HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M176n and M177fw Printers

Introduction

This document provides instructions for loading plain paper, short-length paper, and envelopes in the printer.

Remove the dust cover from the input tray.

Slide the paper guides to their outermost positions.

Load a stack of U.S. letter or A4 size paper into the input tray with the short edge forward and the print side up. Push the stack into the tray until it stops.

Slide in the paper guides until they rest against the edges of the paper.

note:
Do not push the paper guides so far in that they bind the paper.

Reinstall the dust cover on the input tray.

To print on paper shorter than 185 mm (7.3 in), use the short-paper extender to modify the input tray.

Remove the dust cover from the input tray.

Remove any paper from the paper tray.
Slide the paper guides to their outermost positions.

Remove the short-paper extender tool from the storage slot on the right side of the input area.

Slide the tabs on the short-paper extender tool into the slots in the paper length guide until the guide snaps into place.

Push the paper into the printer until it stops, and then push the paper length guide in so the extender tool rests against the paper.

Slide in the paper width guides until they rest against the edges of the paper.

When you finish printing on short paper, remove the short-paper extender tool from the input tray, and then place it in the storage slot.

Reinstall the dust cover on the input tray.

Before you load and print on envelopes, review the following guidelines.

Do not use envelopes with clasps, snaps, windows, coated linings, self-stick adhesives, or other synthetic materials that are susceptible to heat.
Do not use envelopes that are wrinkled, nicked, stuck together, or otherwise damaged.
If you use envelopes with peel-off adhesive strips, make sure they are approved for use in laser printers.
Only use envelopes recommended for laser printers.
Use envelopes with seams that extend to the corners.

Load envelopes in the middle of the tray with the print side facing up and the stamp end towards you.

Slide in the paper guides until they rest against the edges of the envelope.

note:
Do not move the paper guides so far in that they bind the envelope.
Reinstall the dust cover on the input tray.
